Au Paradis Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two days. Best on Day 2. The 2013 “Au Paradis” pours a deep ruby with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears and some signs of light sediment. On the nose, developing the wine is developing with notes of brambles, plums, tobacco, some leather and woody notes, vanilla and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and the texture is pretty plush. To my palate, pretty much a fastball right down the middle of the plate and not quite as intriguing as the “Les Pavots” from the same vintage. Drink now with some patience and through 2038. — 2 months ago

Estate Vineyards Les Pavots Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1996

1996 vintage. Open but not decanted. Pretty serious sed. Tasted one hour after opening. A bit tight at that time, yet, the effort, quality and experience all up front and center. Still the best wine this property has ever made. Possibly 3-4 more years at this apex. A maggie would extend it to 5-8 years. Wow. Just wow. 8.2.24. — a month ago

These are always fantastic. I love the whites but they are as good if not better with reds. Ok a bit hyperbole given the white scores.

@Norman Gennaro I stick by this being the best wine they ever made…white, red, varietal, blend. And I’ve tasted nearly all of their “available” releases since 1988. The chards used to be better when they emphasized acidity and balance vs overt oak-influence.

'Ma Belle-Fille' Chardonnay 2006

Should not have kept it this long - the pain of offsite storage but it’s still very nice. The nose is light/gone, buttery smooth with a light finish. Can’t recall how much acid this had early on in its life but it’s only there lightly now. Not dead but I’m drinking these asap. — 20 days ago
