Ryan Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2023

2023 vintage. Medium-medium heavy body. Old-school RRV swill that eschews the sweetness that crept into the area during the Williams-Selyem heyday/culty scores of the mid-80's to mid-90's. Big tea, earth, light mud, restrained cherry and plum. Structure. Fruit. Balance. No sizzle, all steak. Blind tasting this, you'd be hella pressed to call this as being from RRV. Tastes like it's got 8-10 years of age on it already as a new release. You could sock this away for an easy 15-spot if you're that disciplined, unorganized or behind on opening other stuff. One of the best new domestic pinots tasted in the last few years. P.S...tasted the 2023 MacIntyre (the one that gets all the scores/pub) right after this. It was nice. A new school nice at 9.3. I'll take this any day that ends in "y" instead. You can have my MacIntyre allocation. 3.25.26. — 5 months ago

Crazy Mary Mourvedre 2013

Wow! Still bright, chalky, and full of youthful grip. Red plum, raspberry, lichee and white pepper notes are most dominant. This could easily go another few years and not be at its peak. — 6 years ago

Fresh, funky, and fun. Effervescent. Cider meets IPA vibes. First time trying this much talked about producer. Went great with a mezze plate at Al Badawi. — 10 months ago

Ryan Jentoft Vineyard Pinot Noir 2020

2020 vintage. Swan & Calera clones if correctly remembering. Some chunky/earthy/grounding power frontal and mid-palate slightly thinning out on a concentrated finish. Really nice acidity/tannins for balance with the fruit punch. 4.13.23. — 3 years ago

Hommage à "Marguerite" Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Chardonnay 2017

On first tasting this wine it was noticeably saline and mineral/gravel on the palate. Also notes of citrus and white stone fruits. Oak influence is subdued - matured in 350 litre oak barrels. Overall a great balance between austerity and opulence. Points off for a ridiculously heavy bottle. — 5 months ago

Cuvée Marguerite Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Chardonnay 2016

Lemon Yellow in colour. Aromatics of citrus, apple and white daisies (Barb). Very delicate on the palate with those aromatics of citrus and apple coming through with minerality. A touch of salinity to finish off. Like most PYCM bottles this is way too heavy. — 10 months ago

Olivia Grace Red Blend

This is just hitting it’s peak I feel (good for a few more years at least). The nose is all dried flowers, wet stone, blackberry, and hints of tobacco and vanilla round it out. On the palate, the blackberry carries throughout, with beautiful blueberry and currant highlights. This is a wine to relish on its own. 🤯 — 6 years ago
