Prior notes from March 2020 still apply. Most enjoyable and refreshing - mandarin and lime juice notes on the palate. Diminished acid. I hope European Riesling makers continue to use screw caps. Would be difficult to find an Australian Riesling producer who doesn’t use screw caps these days. — 5 years ago
Mandarin orange notes, light, refreshing. Genuinely loved. — 6 years ago
Coming from an exceptional vintage, the 2005 Viña Tondonia from R. Lopez de Heredia is a compelling blend of Tempranillo (75%), Garnacho (15%), Graciano and Mazuelo (10%), all sourced from their estate vineyards and aged for six years prior to bottling. This sensational wine opens with a bright bouquet of leather, cranberry, orange rind, forest floor and suggestions of black tea. Showing incredible focus and poise, this balanced Rioja is framed around flavors off leather, red cherry, teaberry, Mandarin orange and pipe tobacco that sit alongside brisk minerality, as the wine shows tremendous freshness and length through the long finish. This is an absolute stunning effort from this storied Estate and should continut to drink beautifully for years to come. Drink 2019-2035- 94 — 6 years ago
Super ripe apricots and golden apples with mandarin orange, button mushroom, spicy bell pepper, honey, flowers, and beeswax on the nose. Fruits continue onto palate with ginger spice and cinnamon. Finish reminds me of Apple Jacks. A touch of RS. Fun wine, a good expression. — 8 years ago
Awesome Kabinett from the Pfalz. Great finesse and wonderful purity. Nose of mandarin and just-ripe green apple, pure, river stone minerality, jasmine and honeysuckle, and a subtle cardamom-y spice. A bit of petrol and a citrusy sorrel herbaciousness show up as well after it gets some air. Palate echoes the nose, channeled through bracing acidity and just a touch of perceptible RS; less than your average Kabinett but better for it in this case. Great balance. Medium (-) body with nice supple oily texture, guessing there's some elevage on fine lees here but not entirely sure. Have to keep myself from chugging it practically; it's so tasty and quenching. — 8 years ago
It seems like the price of this creeps up every year which is vexing. The speciale is rich and intensely vinous and umami, with cutting acidity (non-malo) tart green apple and mandarin orange, spearmint, spice and toast. Still think I prefer the basic cuvée pound for pound — 5 years ago
Revisiting this vintage, last bottle. Pale yellow, sparkling clarity. Tropical fruit, citrus notes on nose (pineapple, orange or Meyer lemon). Lemon, mandarin orange pith flavors with creamy lees finish, tart lime aftertaste, at least initially. Hint of straw. Grapefruit pith emerges in the finish after an hour. — 6 years ago
The 2011 ‘En Chamberlin’ Syrah by Cayuse is stunning at this age. Gorgeous dark fruits connect with wet rocks and charcuterie and Mandarin orange rind aromatics, which all come together in the glass. The silky texture borders ethereal as gorgeous flavors of black cherry cough syrup, wet rocks, umami, salted meats, black tea and blood orange flavors continue to impress. This remarkable Syrah is a sensational wine made by superstar vigneron Christophe Baron. — 6 years ago

From a 30 year old hillside vineyard at Southern most part of Napa Valley. This is a truly remarkable Chardonnay. It boasts verve and acidity but it is by no means, lean or 'steeley' in nature. The acidity and precision are not at the expense of the beautifully rich fruit, which carries the wine. The nose is full of orchard fruit, citrus blossoms , and every-so-light butterscotch. The palate is mineral driven with loads of pretty mandarin orange, lemon oil, and verbena. This is about as 'old world' as you will find a Chardonnay in California. — 8 years ago
Tonight's wine was a Christmas gift from a family member. This 2013 Big Head Chenin Blanc comes from the Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario region of Canada.
On the nose there is pear, honeydew melon, apricot, apple blossom, ginger, honey, saffron and minerality.
On the palate I am getting an overabundance of ripe fruit, apricot, mandarin orange, mango, pineapple, baked apple, lemon curd and wet rock minerality.
This wine is medium bodied with medium + acidity and there is a medium sweetness not overly sweet that lends to a well balanced, well rounded Chenin Blanc.

Mid Lemon in colour. Aromas of White Citrus flowers and a note of Mandarin. Lime and lemon on the palate with the citric acid having settled down from its youth. Not particularly complex - just a refreshing German dry Riesling 12% ABV. Good QPR at about $35AUD. Tasted again 18 weeks later on 16th January 2021 with similar impressions. There was mandarin, citrus oil and honey. No complexity to speak of but fresh and well presented - from an excellent producer. — 5 years ago
Mid yellow in colour. Aromas of musk and mandarin with dried herbs and a hint of paraffin. Fresh and sprightly at 18 years of age. I was contemplating leaving this to 2022 when it would have been 20 years old and on this showing it would have made it easily. With time some peachy flavours and some sweetness. Next day - lovely honeysuckle and honeyed notes on the palate. Fulsome with stone fruits and quince - you would think off dry but in fact 12.8% ABV and fully dry. Made by the legendary Brian Croser back then. An absolute treat to have a wine like this for Sunday lunch. One of the Wines of the Year for me. — 5 years ago
Tonight's wine is the 2018 Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand.
The nose reveals aromas of lime, grass, melon, grapefruit, mandarin orange, orange peel and wet concrete.
On the palate there are notes of grapefruit, nectarine, passionfruit, lime and mlm limestone minerality.
This wine is medium bodied with a smooth rich balance and high acidity that moves right into a long clean, crisp, minerality finish. I am really liking these New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs and they don't disappoint. Let's have a great weekend this weekend and enjoy whatever wine or wines you decide to drink. Lets be safe and be kind to each other. Nostrovia! 🥂🥂🥂🥂 — 6 years ago
Love! Honeyed, mandarin peel, potpourri. Broad, rich palate, but bone dry with refreshing pithy bitterness. Such a treat to drink Muscat with age, and an excellent value to boot. — 8 years ago
Mid Lemon ultra bright. A mouth filling white with grapes from the Southern Rhone showing Grapefruit and Mandarin nuances with a mouth watering bitterness. Incredible QPR. A good white for when the weather cools off as it is in the Southern Hemisphere. — 8 years ago
