I love a good Malbec, and this one does not disappoint. Bold flavor and very dark in color. Low acidity, spicy but relatively smooth with good tannins. Let’s have it again. — 5 years ago
Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving! Previous notes apply! Vintage 2016.
We had our holiday celebration today! Being the only wine connoisseur in the household...I picked a familiar wine...since my palate is deliciously compromised from an abundance of seasonings! — 7 years ago
This wine is on fire! Inky purple in the glass. Blackberries on the nose with a touch of cinnamon and maybe a hint of barnyard. Blackberries on the palate with a little oak in the finish. This wine is like being wrapped in a warm blanket. Great with pan-seared pork chops in a mushroom cream sauce. — 7 years ago
Fruity blackberries well balanced stood in for the rioja in our chicken rioja just fine. — 8 years ago
One of the best Malbec in this price range. — 9 years ago
Delicious. Complex but smooth. Medium tannin. — 4 years ago
Bolognese leftovers?
Bam!
Rich toasty on the nose.
What a fun, easy malbec for the price!
Finished a bottle in college once. Was in the attic watching TV in a party house. Nostalgic vibes only. — 5 years ago
A Malbec from old vines in Mayor Drummond, Luján de Cuyo, that spent 12 months aging in one-third new and two-thirds used oak. Bright purple in the glass. The nose features candied plum and jam and hints of pepper and allspice, as well as tomato preserve, vanilla and herbs. Concentrated, substantial and well-balanced, with a light, slightly rustic feel enhanced by the active tannins, which also deepen the profile. Well made in a ripe style. This was the last bottle from a case I bought in about 1997. Over the 29 years since the wine was made, the noteworthy tar and tobacco notes that Pontet Canet is known for softened to an ashy-ness that is a softer version of a Mouton Rothschild. Still plenty of life left in this outstanding vintage, but the wine won't improve much (if at all) from this point. I enjoyed this bottle with Lucas Comfort, a day after his 29th birthday (1990). — 7 years ago
Fruit forward--cherries and red plum, faint spicines or note of cacao. Silky palate, long finish.
Bloody marvelous for $11 a bottle here in Washington, D.C. — 8 years ago
78 in 17. The fruit crushed today marks the 40th anniversary of making cab. So we celebrated with a bottle of 78. Remarkable how the fruit remains integrated. Hardly even any sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Soft and ripe plums. — 9 years ago
Pepper. Lava rock. Some vanilla, and almost cedar or tobacco/aged cigar. Possibly dried fruit like currant or plum thrown in there. Wonderfully complex. — 9 years ago
Had one bottle at Bazaar Meat in Vegas! — 4 years ago
Pale lemon with aromas of stone and tropical fruits. Made from 40-year old vines, aged in 100% stainless steel. On the palate flavors of bright lemon citrus with crisp apple and peach notes. This medium-body wine has crisp acidity, good balance and nice mouthfeel, smooth long finish ending with creamy mineral texture. Very Nice! — 5 years ago
medium ruby, prominent glass staining tears; blackberry, bitter dark chocolate, violets, herbs; sappy red berry fruit, long finish; full bodied, medium+ acidity, surprising tannic grip, medium grained, 14% ABV; made from 100% Malbec sourced from granitic soil blocks of Catena Zapata’s two historic vineyards Adrianna (Gualtallary) and Nicasia (Altamira) in the Uco valley — 6 years ago
Favorite of the night — 7 years ago
Tasted in 2014: elements of dill, coconut butter, cedar, blackberry preserves, herbal roots. Very good single vineyard wine for the money. — 8 years ago
A big and concentrated 60% Malbec and 40% CS blend that shows its finesse and well rounded characters on the palate. Tobacco, incense, black fruits, earth, spice with abundance but well integrated oak. Long and bright spicy finish.
Caro means expensive in Spanish, but For $50, I would consider this money well spent. — 9 years ago
