Can't decide if this wine is complex or confusing. Lovely nose opens up to strong hints of olive and pencil shavings. Nice fruit and earthiness hits the palate, but it seems like a cab sometimes, other sips resemble a bold chateauneuf, and other times like a great Bandol. 2013 vintage. The second wine of La Chapelle, that is now named " Maison Bleue", but an excellent wine in its own right. At 9 years old this is absolutely gorgeous with an expressive nose of blackberries, wild flowers, pepper and leather, enhanced by a subtle smokiness. In the mouth it combines power with elegance, with pure fruit, subtle spices, silky tannins and great length. Terrific value if the mythical La Chappelle doesn't fit your budget. If aliens landed and asked "What does earth wine taste like?", I would hand them a bottle of this. 👽🍷 Not because I think it's the best earth has to offer but because I think it's a good representation of what fermented grapes taste like.
