My style. High toned and limey but with juicy sweetness bringing it back down to earth.
I could drink this all day long. Lip smacking and snappy. 11.5% alc. — 5 years ago
This was a gift taste from the well trained staff at Compline restaurant in downtown Napa. If you are not familiar with Compline. It opened a little over a year ago by Master Sommelier Matt Stamp and his partner. Matt is perhaps the most brilliant Master Sommelier when it comes to wine theory that I have encountered. Genius and one heck of a nice person!
The restaurant has very good food with a small well selected wine shop...both very reasonably priced. I can’t recommend enough trying his restaurant. If you are in a group of four or more, order a bunch of plates and share them paired with wine from the shop or you bring in. The menu is online and usually updated week to week.
Again, no detailed notes as we were with friends. But, this 73 Freeway Abbey Riesling, due to very long aging, was more like a blend of a light Tawny port and port than Riesling. Guaranteed to fool 99.5% plus of all tasters in a blind tasting. Some prune, date, very little citrus, brown sugar and molasses. Beautiful acidity, round tasty, elegant body and absolutely delicious.
Photos of, Freemark Abbey, their tasting patio, signage and long shot of their winery and Estate vines.
Freemark Abbey also owns a very good restaurant opened 1-2 years ago. It’s called, “Two Birds One Stone” it is right next to their winery/tasting room on Hwy 29. — 6 years ago

1975 vintage. Golden honeyed raisined brown sugared carmelized orangey goodness — 9 years ago
This 2016 Riesling wine is made from late-harvested grapes, so it is sweet. However, it is sweet in a different way than a dessert wine is sweet. There is no layered sugar, no raisiny note. I get the sweetness of the grapes, and the minerals which accompany them. Stone fruit is apparent, as is the smell of a wet driveway, a whiff of ozone and the faint petrol notes that begin to show in Rieslings over time. This may be one of the best examples of the grape that I have had. — 5 years ago
Sweet but not too sweet. Caitlin likes it. A bit acidicy but matches well with the sweet — 6 years ago
A bit sweeter than I expected from an “off dry” wine, but absolutely delightful. Some color with age, but that didn’t hurt a bit. — 7 years ago
Chris loves the sweeter version of this Riesling — 8 years ago

Crispy 🍑 with citruses, zesty & balanced entry level, which performed gratefully paired with home made Carsar's salat. — 9 years ago
2014. Delicious lime, pink lady apple and elderflower fruit on the nose. Palate is concentrated, complex and rich with beautifully balanced fruit, sweetness and crisp acidity. Sublime & pure expression of Rheingau. — 9 years ago

Tasted blind. Opulent bouquet full of tropical fruits, dried pineapple and coconut. Off-dry palate, long aftertaste with flavours of lime, pineapple and bergamot. Overall it's well made, well balanced, very friendly, but not fascinating. My first wine of this producer. — 4 years ago
