Popped and poured; enjoyed over a red sauce pasta night at home. High shoulder fill, but the cork completely disintegrated during removal. Juice is still drinking exceptionally well; shockingly fresh for being 40. Tons of black fruit and strong spices, with its age showing via expected tobacco and leather notes. Very good. But I prefer the single variety Shiraz over the blend. I don’t think cab adds to AUS Shiraz, quite honestly. 😎🇦🇺 Note that I am rating the Vetus Purum reserve wine. Delectable just cannot classify it right. — 2 years ago
Beautiful wine. Presents as a cross of burgundy Pinot Noir and Sangiovese. Dusty cherry and strawberry on the palate like Sangiovese. Light tannins like Pinot. Welcome medium acidity to make it its own. — 7 months ago

Inaugural release from Pauline, Raphaël Bérèche’s wife. Made of old-vine Pinot Noir from her own family’s estate. 48 months on lees and with a dosage of 3.5 g/l. Scarce as hen’s teeth with a mere 1996 bottles produced. Delicious, though I did find it a tad simple (and primary). Heaps of green apples and citrus fruits. Tasted almost like Zapple for those in the know. Air did coax out the more mineralic elements, along with hints of nuttiness and toast. Good energy. Medium ruby in color; black cherries, hibiscus, and violets on the nose; high acidity; fine grained, medium plus tannins; tastes like cherries, pomegranates, blackberries, and crushed gravel with a long finish. I love it, and Nellie says it's ok. Do not decant this wine. It lost some of its aromas after an hour. — 7 months ago
