2009 vintage. Opened with a Durand and decanted. Perfect fill and cork. Some sed but slightly less than expected. Throwing out color more purple than any royalty could ever dream of. Tasted after 15 minutes and 2.5 hours. Seductive, come hither nose and accompanying medium/medium-heavy curvaceous body. Took as much restraint as I could muster not to crush this instantly. Ridiculously excellent. Second impressions after 2.5 hours…wine had dropped the seductive pretensions and was downright dirty. Earth, mushrooms, chalk, tobacco all without the initial, devilish richness. Still didn’t suck. This was phenomenal and the Dickens Tale Of Two Cities “age of light, age of darkness.” Essential. 2.6.26. — 4 months ago

The nose on this is stunning. Big and black fruit with a dollop of tar. The palate follows the nose with blackberries, plum, dusty rock, and dark soil. An enjoyable balance of fruit and earth. Steak wine! This is excellent.

Comes out earthy and a touch funky, which fades with time open, leaving behind pure brambly berry fruit. Delicate, with good concentration and length. — 4 years ago
Strolled into Trader Joe’s; the shelf was stocked with this. Couldn’t believe it. Picked up another half case. This is a phenomenal bordeaux and one of the best QPRs around. Haven’t tasted in a year and it’s just as memorable. Lots of great mushroom and sweaty gym socks with a dusty, tannic finish. Perfect example of a phenomenal wine at sub-$20 that drinks at 3-4x the price. — 7 years ago
Going back in time for this one. Let it sit a little and it opened right up. — 3 months ago

2019: sweet plum and spice box nose. Concentrated and powerful with robust tannins at this point. Medium long finish. I suspect this will be quite good in 3-5 years! — 5 months ago

It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!
Deep ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
Red fruits on the nose with spices and dark chocolate notes.
Full-bodied with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with black plums, currants, light oak, coffee, herbs, chocolates, licorice, spices, light earth, black pepper, tobacco leaf and black tea.
Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.
This is very tasty Merlot from Saint Emilion. Complex and rich. Nicely balanced, fruit forward and elegant.
This 5 year old Merlot based blend is still young, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly, but already drinking nicely.
Interesting enough to drink as a sipping wine, or with food.
A blend of 69% Merlot and 31% Cabernet Franc. Aged in (50% New) French Oak barrels for 16 months.
14.5% alcohol by volume.
91 points.

Love this style of wine. Nose jumps out at you with bright cherry fruit, spice, loads of minerals and lovely forest floor. Ripe and lurid. Soupy in the best way. Really airy, high toned and just so aromatic. Very impressed. Palate is sweet and succulent with very impressive tang and length. A haunting opulent and terrific texture adds to the allure. Fresh and juicy with terrific energy and purity. Long with superb powdery tannins. — 5 years ago
The nose is different. Much more woodsy and less fruit than I’d have imagined. The flavour profile was blackberry based and again, some wood. Some eucalyptus and green grass. Also some wet soil and cloves. The tannins weren’t a punch in the face by any means, but also haven’t haven’t completely softened as you might expect in a ten year-old. The palate was uninspiring as there was a watery-ness in the mid palate. I’m not sure whether this is over the hill or just not quite there yet and in a dumb phase? Will wait and see for the final two bottles. Solid, I guess. Not yet amazing. — 7 years ago
