Serendipity- n. Bidding on and winning the wrong lot in an online auction, and the wine turns out to be fabulous (and educational).
I'm generally not a Rosé guy, but this is an exception. Complex and defies the general rules of the category. From the weekend. — 8 years ago
Butterscotch, vanilla and heavily wooded. Very much against the grain, excuse the pun, in South Africa as the general wine drinker prefers a more unwooded chardonnay. — 9 years ago
Leaps out of the glass with flowers, an almost kirsch-like red cherry, granite, a tinge of funk, and an intoxicating mix of herbs and spices. Like a field of wildflowers that's been dusted with cinnamon, star anise, and clove. Melds together over time into a sexy perfume that would be unmistakable if I came across it decades from now. Everything translates through to the palate in a juicy and lively celebration. Relative to Gamay, or Beaujolais in general, this has weight and length in spades. I wish I hadn't waited until this vintage to try this producer. If there's better Gamay I'm sure I won't find it because I'll be too busy drinking this. — 9 years ago
Comte Lafon is considered one of the top producers of Burgundy with most of their bottles selling for triple digits and four digits for their top wines. In the late nineties they ventured out of Burgundy proper (the Cote d'Or) and also setup shop in the southern Burgundy region of the Maconnais by purchasing a domaine there. The focus of the domaine is Chardonnay and they have bottlings from many different villages and vineyards. The vines are farmed Biodynamically (a practice that goes far beyond organic) and most of their wines see a limited amount of oak in order to let the vines express themselves. These are some of the best values you will find in white Burgundy and Chardonnay in general. Ever bottle I've tasted from them so far has been laced with beautiful minerality. — 9 years ago
Well-executed example of the more modern, super-ripe, plush Zin style. Not a style I am crazy about in general, but this one is not over-the-top. Nose has juicy blackberry, a bit of maple syrup, and some sandestony gravel. Plush and deeply fruity, but within bounds, keeping some balance throughout the long finish. Not super complex, but very nice. — 5 years ago
Funky but good for general interest. — 6 years ago
This Pinot Noir (the t in Pinot is silent) is delectable. A true shining star. The aromatic treat starts with strong notes of red, and screams 'drink the entire bottle buddy'. Succumbing to the temptation you will discover a blissful elegance as this masterpiece flows through your body. Invigorating your inner youth, enchanting your inner sommelier, and appeasing your inner drunkard with the 16.0% alcohol by volume. This reasonably priced bottle of happiness would truly be a delight on any occasion. Additionally the surgeon general declares consumption of such a magnificent beverage could be detrimental to the growth of a child, pregnant women be warned. — 9 years ago
Spicy finish, similar general flavors as Meiomi with the darker flavors forward. — 9 years ago
Whoa. This stuff is seriously the bee's knees. Small biodynamic producer from Slovenia. This is a wine of firsts for me; first Slovenian wine and first Blaufrankisch. This particular one has an almost gamey herbaceousness to it that I didn't expect based on what I've heard about Blaufrankisch, but it's certainly appreciated. This kinda reminds me of a more wild, rustic Chinon or Saumur-Champigny; definitely gives a lot of similar vibes to Loire Cab Franc in general for me, which is amazing because I love Loire CF with a raging passion. Kinda reminds me of a cross between Cab Franc and Frappato, maybe? I dunno, but it's rad. Scents of cracked black pepper, dill, green bell pepper, fresh cranberry, dried cherry, dried rose and violet, a tiny bit of wood smoke, and wet crushed gravel are translated quite congruently on the palate, carried by nice pleasant, moderate (+) acidity and supported by moderate, supple tannin. This stuff is like, ridiculously complex for it's $17 price tag at my local shop, I need to snag all of this up next time I go to the store. — 9 years ago
Estate named Beau-Séjour in 1787 by General Jacques de Carle, proprietor at the time. Michel Bécot bought estate from Dr Jean Fagouet in 1969 increasing vines from 10.5 hectares to 15, acquiring Trois Moulins plateau in 1979, kept the name Beau-Séjour Bécot. Blend of 87% Merlot, 9% Cab Sauv & 4% Cab Franc. Nice berry aromas, ripe cherry & fresh raspberry flavors with notes of sweet cacao & tobacco adding some toasty notes. Firm tannins, not overpowering, lingering ending with tangy sweet oak.Tasting Sample. — 6 years ago
Great wine! My first Hungarian! A little sweeter than for a usual dinner wine, but excellent as a dessert or appetizer wine, or general drinking — 9 years ago
A fantastic example of low fruit wine with tastes of rose water, ocean mist, limestone, and spices that follows scents of green apples and strawberries. Oh, and the lingering finish...yum! Pairs well with most anything, but tonight it was General Tso Chicken that this Rose cut through with ease. Look forward to meeting again. — 9 years ago

Catching up with old wine notes now that I’m spending more time at home. Aromas of earth, mushrooms, beetroot, root vegetables in general. Afterwards - dried rose petals. Easily Premier Cru standard. The palate is intense, fluid, long and very Burgundian - the most of any Australian Pinot although I am hearing wonderful things about By Farr Serre. A sooty tarry earthy element developed after a while. A brilliant Pinot Noir. — 5 years ago
