2008 Sine Qua Non "Jinete Bajo Vin de Paille" California Roussanne (375ml). A sweet wine named after E’s favorite horse. Beautiful, fathom-deep gold color. Apricots and orange marmalade on the nose. Unctuous, syrupy, creamy texture with notes of candied citrus and creme brûlée. Monstrous 240 grams per liter of residual sugar with perfectly balanced acidity. Manfred really is the master of these high wire balancing acts. Is there anything that this guy doesn’t excel at? Simply spectacular. A beautiful dessert wine that is itself a dessert. — 9 years ago

At first we thought it was corked. After about an hour it started kicking off and probably with more time would even excel. Black and red cherry notes with earthy - leathery spices. Light, soft and balanced tannins. High rate for its age. — 9 years ago
Magnum 1990 Chateau Latour Bordeaux. Dinner at T w neighbors. Drank alongside the '91 Phelps CS. Decanted this ~2 hours before serving. It was excellent, but by the end of the night, had petered out while the Phelps continued to excel. Note that next time we should decant only abt 1 hour before serving. — 9 years ago
2004 vintage. Didn't excel in such auspicious competition. But on its own not bad. Drinkable! — 12 years ago
Pairs well with excel — 12 years ago
Extreme ethos - but nice drink - exotic, layered - might have enough parts to excel in the long haul - quirky but nice — 12 years ago
Kicking off Mrs Es long birthday weekend 🎉
This latest £125 vintage is fab now but should excel around 2022-25 as a touch youthful 👍
🍇 53% PN & 47% Chardonnay
🍷 Golden light straw
👃 Toasted almond brioche, honey, apple & pear compote w/ minerals, yeast & a light smokey vanilla toffee backbone
👄 Med bodied very fine bubbled mousse of rich ripe honey caramel infused fresh green fruits w/ a lemon/grapefruit citrus twist & dry minerals

Fruit aromas of blueberry muffins and blackberry jam. Black maraschino cherries excel as aeration occurs. The American oak gives it soft and elegant toffee, coffee, and vanilla bean notes. A firm backbone of cigar, cracked black pepper, and toasted brown sugar keeps the oak grounded and equal to the fruit. Tannins are fine grained and firm. Some good complexity here. 50% Monastrell and 50% Syrah aged in used Pappy Van Winkle bourbon barrels. Definitely worth giving it a try. — 9 years ago
That tannic, slightly bland taste mid-palate erupted into a profusion of roses and herbs at the end. Reminiscent of those hardscrabble, scrappy flowers that excel in the most dire of environmental conditions. Really love this for a Nero D'Avola, and it reminds me of seeing, from a plane, barren Mt. Etna surrounded by lush paradise. Vino di Vino — 10 years ago
Fragrant and pleasing. Just what I wanted for my first wine of the evening after a beautiful, sunny spring day I spent hunched over an excel spreadsheet. — 10 years ago
Really enjoying this one. Goes well with a light BBQ chicken. V tasty on its own after a day of excel (Microsoft Excel not excellent performance!) — 11 years ago
winderful fruit and structure. Bob Betz continues to both excel at and improve his art... — 12 years ago
Pairs well with scope of work documents and excel spreadsheets. But seriously, great nodes of green apple and grass - even after being at room temp for a few hours. — 12 years ago
This 2011 vintage is a classic Oregon Pinot noir. Crafted from Fairsing Vineyard's finest fruit and bottled aged to perfection. Drink now or cellar and this beauty is sure to excel with time. — 12 years ago
On the nose, candied red floral fruits of; boysenberries, strawberries, dark cherries, plum, black raspberries & blueberries hues. Sweet vanillin, slight liqueur notes, clove, touch of nutmeg, cinnamon, fruit tea, mixed berry cola, light soft spice, warm toast, loamy dry top soil & clay, soft volcanic crushed minerals, hint of rubber toy & dark red, blue florals with violets.
The body is medium stretching to full. Tannins are round, dusty, slightly sticky and 55-60% resolved. The structure, tension, length and balance are in the first stages of hitting its stride. The palate shows the same candied red floral fruits of; boysenberries, strawberries, dark cherries, plum, black raspberries & blueberries hues. Sweet vanillin, slight liqueur notes, warm toast, clove, touch of nutmeg, cinnamon, dark chocolate, mocha, fruit tea, mixed berry cola, the spice is darker & has a nice medium intensity that show heat on the long set, graphite, Montecristo cigar, expresso coffee, loamy dry top soil & clay, soft volcanic crushed minerals, hint of rubber toy & dark red, blue florals with violets. The acidity is round and nicely done. The finish is well balanced, rich and lasts minutes. The 08 Fay Hillside really started to excel after two hours in the decanter.
Photos of, their patio showing nicely at twilight, Tasting room & Estate vines, the pendulum balls that never stops swinging in the cellars and if memory serves me well, their Fay Vineyard.

Anderson Valley in California’s Mendocino County seems to get a little lost in the shuffle, which is unfortunate. Considerable investment in recent years has helped to elevate attention to the region that continues to prove it can excel with Chardonnays, Pinots, Syrahs and Cabernets. The 2015 Pinot Noir (Anderson Valley), the second selection from Rhys's Bearwallow vineyard, is gorgeous. Sweet red cherry, hard candy, wild flowers, mint, and rose petal notes are pushed forward in a pliant, supple Pinot that will drink well right out of the gate. There is so much to like here, including the wine's engaging, up-front personality. This stellar appellation-level wine over delivers big time. Don't miss it. Radiant and transparent Cabernet showing excellent purity and very good typicity and acidity. Spottswoode is always so consistent for me and always so impeccably pure. The 2008 is 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc that shows beautiful Cabernet traits, something the best Napa wines excel at. What many wines in Napa do not necessarily excel at is revealing the terroir of site, this vintage of Spottswoode shows terroir in spades. Cassis and currants, a dash of mocha, a touch of graphite and rock, with white floral and violet aromatics in the background. A nice streak of minerality shows up on the mid-palate and finish. The tannin are ripe, full bodied, but fine and supple. The acidity here is key, it elevates the aromas, as well as adds lift and energy to the palate, while refreshing the finish.
@spottswoodewinery makes some of the most consistent and honest wines from #cabernetsauvignon not just in Napa but the world. #spottswoode #cabernetsauvignon #sthelena #napa #spoton — 9 years ago
Popped, poured two glasses & splashed the rest into a decanter. Quite reductive & needed time to come around. This is about tension & texture, I kept checking the bottle to make sure I wasn't drinking Chablis. Mineral & bright acid pull smoky citrus fruit back & forth. Really nice right now, will excel with bottle age. — 10 years ago

Excel bold Flavors. Had it with Salmon but would be a great steak wine. — 11 years ago
Li ha costat obrir-se manifestant aromes de fruita molt madura persistents, vermell fosc encara amb tons violetes , saborós i potent , glicèric i amb tanins encara vius , gust persistent de compota vermella i torrats. Final pebrat. . Excel. lent. — 12 years ago

— 8 years ago
