One encounter with an ex-château bottle suggested that the 1966 Lynch-Bages is not to be overlooked. Deep in color, it has a tempting nose that unfolds gradually in the glass, graphite and cedar commingling with crushed stone and red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a firm entry, very cedary with touches of desiccated orange peel. It's a bit conservative on the finish, though that is a leitmotif of the 1966 vintage. Well-preserved bottles should still be giving pleasure. Tasted at the Lynch Bages vertical. (Neal Martin, Vinous, July 2023) — 10 months ago

Pretty darn close to old school Napa. — 9 months ago
Getting better with age. . . Still not an overly complex cab but much more blended tannins that provide a smoothness that covers up the limited flavors. Still have some bottles and look forward to seeing how this is in future years. — 7 months ago

This was served during my annual WWC hosting. Typical format of sparkler, three whites, four reds, one dessert, all served blind.
My last of a three-pack. One sadly fell (literally) victim to the pavement. Silver lining is that while I think this can hold in this window for a bit, this wine doesn’t seem to show that it will get better.
Decanted an hour. 80 Grenache/ 15 Mourvèdre/ 5 Syrah & cinsault. To me, this is the Paso style yet in France. It’s big yet has balance…rich and toasty. Loads of garrigue, dark potpurri, and peppered black cherries aromatically. The red fruit streaks through the palate surrounded by bitter dark chocolate, hint of charcoal and mineral. Consumed 01/2024. Did not have it with any food, just sipped on it by itself. The bottle describes it as bright with complex fruit, subtle spices and silky, refined tannins. 13.9 % ALC by VOL — 4 months ago
