Third blind wine for this weekend tasting.
Deep purplish ruby red. A bit tight to start on the nose and a touch dirty. After a couple hours of breathing this opened up with a ton of dark cocoa and black cherries. Heavy woody tannins (8.5/10) and full bodied with an almost chalky or powdery texture. Layered palate with cinnamon, cassis and more black fruits. Long and lingering finish. Drink till 2028. (94+)
Killer wine and some serious juice by Aaron Pott. — 8 years ago
Drinking chilled. Cured meats, smoke and peat in the nose alongside some red fruits, and black currant. Black currant, warm spice and plums fill the mouth, followed by refreshing acidity and a long, dirty, mineral finish. Absolutely lovely on a hot day. — 8 years ago
Sample from #CapeClassics.
Deep ruby red with high intensity. Nose was slightly dirty to start with a little barnyard or wet hay funk (good South African funk, don't be scared). This aired out to some classic chalkiness with tobacco, light bell peppers and a little charred note at the end. Moderate tannins (7/10) with a medium plus body. This was very tight and softer than expected when we opened it, but started to sing after a few hours in the glass. Very well integrated, no sharp or harsh edges. Layered palate with some red cherries and savory notes on the front end. With the air time came a few more notes of black berries and raspberries, some dried berries too. Also seemed to have a few rustic characteristics. Beautiful wine with a dry and lingering finish. Definitely one of the great wines out of South Africa. Give it some good air time and let it get to just below room temperature before enjoying. Drink till 2028. — 8 years ago
An old Kermit Lynch selection. Always a question as to whether to decant or not. Didn't in this case so initial notes were dirty and Brett. Once more air kicked in the Syrah started to show through.
Pretty garnet edge to edge. Red rose petal, black pepper, red raspberry and nutmeg.
Linear red currant, plum, and cedar. Thin in the middle but lingering flavors and finish. Shows well for its age. — 9 years ago
Carema! Vintage designated, good dirty — 10 years ago
Black cherry cola with dirty mushrooms, soft tannins and fresh Rainier cherries. Opened up nicely with decanting, worth the time. Acidity still present, drink over the next 3 yrs. — 10 years ago
I made an analogy tonight of learning about wine and skiing. @DirtyandRowdy is definitely a double black diamond trail. You either love it (like me), feel exhilarated and thrilled. Other people might feel like just slid face first into a tree. One thing is for sure, it's never boring. — 11 years ago
Still a rather intriguing bottle of wine. This wine has got a rather interesting nose of mint, raspberry, herb. The entry is dirty raspberry, mulberry, green olive. Gets softer in the middle. Raspberry, fig, mushroom in the middle. The finish is where this one gets a little raucous. Green grape stem, hint of green bell pepper, oregano, and lots of brambly black cherry, acidic finish that was more apparent in the first hour, but settled down in the second hour. Bottle was gone very quickly. My inventory of this wine was +2'ed on the latest trip to Napa, and is available at the Sacramento International Airport Vino Volo as we speak. — 8 years ago

Not going to expound upon vintages and weather. This is a really nice wine. Some will say this is a Janoueix play on a new World style. But I find it compellingly balanced for a Bordeaux from a generously vaunted region. The nose a mish-mash of arboreal cuts, with pine interceding, but also a slick, black, stony core that sloughs smoky, elemental suggestions. A tar and graphite mouthful, showing depth without getting gritty or pronounced, then settling on a supple note of blueberry-currant on the carry through, but pleasant and enduring like an empowering conquest! Rise above! Plenty of residual perfume to make it salacious. Dirty as you want to be. — 9 years ago
2013. And has many years left. Let this thing open up. For a minimum of 30 minutes. Minimum! It opens up like nothing from N. Cali. There's black cherry and overripe blackberry and some cigar box and leather and on and on. One of the most complex new world small production wines I've had. Wish I had a case. The tannins are some of the most elegant and smooth I've ever had. A truly one of kind beautiful wine. — 9 years ago
Aromas of mushrooms, underbrush, cassis, blackberries, old leather boots, volate acidity, crushed stones, and black pepper. Rustic, dirty, earthy, dark fruits, leather, dark chocolate, and some rancio notes. Weak but some rustic beauty to it. — 12 years ago
Firing. On. All. Cylinders. Wine was purchased about 3.5 years ago in a six-pack and was intended to be consumed rather fast. Back story: ran into a 12 pack of 2005 "Prima Voce" close to 10 years ago at about 10 bucks per bottle and was told it was "ok" for an Italian blend but it wouldn't last longer than a year or so (but noone knew for sure). It. Killed. Come to realize the only reason it was available readily in the states was because Kendall Jackson acquired them. Fast forward about 6 years from that and requested to find this one. Today, Arceno is still under the KJ umbrella. Have slowly been drinking on the ones I found a few years ago. This wine is rather aromatic even from Coravin. Dirty raspberry, grilled meat, Italian spice on the nose. Medium + density and mouthfeel. Acidity has died down quite a bit, allowing a floral dirty raspberry to show up front, losing a lot of sweetness. that I remember,Leathery and "bloody" in the middle. Finishes with some brambly herb, green olive, and a hint of black pepper spice. This wine is RIGHT at the top of the hill now. There are many 12 year old Chiantis that I would gladly pass on, but this one is a definite "yes please" even at 12 years of age. Ratings likely in the 8's because people just don't give this one the time that it needs. D — 7 years ago
Fifth of the blind tasting for Father's Day weekend.
Deep ruby red. A bit dirty to start on the nose with some aged characteristics of forest floor and truffles. Dirtiness wore off with some air, opening up with dusty black fruits, sweet spices, cedar and a little bit of cigar box. Medium tannins (6/10) and medium plus to full bodied. Well rounded and integrated. Rick attack of dark fruits, sweet spices with some solid greenery and damp leaves, but not overpowering. Long finish. Drink till 2021.
This was enjoyed over a six over period and on day two. Just got better and better. — 8 years ago
Aromatics spank you... hard. It's that dirty spanking that you like. Tart black plum sauce takes control at first, but after a couple swirls, secondary aromas of grilled meats, leather, and espresso get on top. Thrusting from the bottom are dried herbs, licorice, and menthol. Full-bodied with structured tannins and edgy acidity. You're left with a puckering yogurt creaminess in the back finish. Balanced like the Kama Sutra, this wine gives you a Marvin Gaye song on repeat. These Nero's are a steal. — 9 years ago
At a really good spot right now. Opened with a ton of cinnamon and baking spice. A range of fruit types(red/black/blue) and conditions(fresh and bright but also oxidized and cooked). Earthy, dirty Mourvèdre/Brett notes on the first day but more of a dried violet/tar thing on the second day. — 9 years ago
Funky, dirty, meaty nose, drinking stones of the earth. Purple and black fruit from some overgrown long forgotten mystic garden. Extended finish like another round of applause. — 10 years ago
Dirty(subois) and tea leaves with tart black cherry — 10 years ago
The F Bomb. The black pepper notes blended with the blackberry jam create a unique and exquisite experience. — 11 years ago
Mushrooms and pottery clay nose with baked blackberries. Forrest biomass and black plum intertwine with gamey goodness.. Big fruit tannins; grainy and smooth. A delicious thing. Paired this with Beet Wellington, a beet, mushroom, garlic, kale, and spinach -goat cheese Puff pastry wonder. Knew I would need a dirty girl for this one. Found her in this bottle. — 12 years ago
