So very 'Raul' for me. Deeply colored, still purple. Nose of dark cherries, savoury wood, bitter chocolate. On the palate this is firm, drying, quite long and what I would call nobly bitter. Not for everyone as the texture of this wine seems more important that the aromas. I believe this will repay time in the cellar. — 8 years ago
Delicious. Deeply herbaceous. Toasting Joe the birthday boy. — 9 years ago
Deep ruby glass with Crimson rim. Decant 30 mins for a deeply complex medium nose of earth, black cherry, raspberry, cassis, anise, leather, coffee, cocoa, pepper, spice, tobacco, blackberry and vanilla. Gentle acid to the palate of medium body with black fruits, anise, and black pepper, Soft tannins lead to a medium long slightly chalky finish of pepper, black fruit and smoke. Very good balance and structure. Soft tannins better as a sipper or with lighter dishes. Great value at $27.99 USD for this South African Shiraz. — 9 years ago
Very cool, geeky wine. Lots of flowers and strawberries in the nose. The palate is deeply nuanced with strawberries, rhubarb, red raspberries and spices. Really nice Old World Garnacha. — 9 years ago
2009 vintage aged very well. Very Ruby deeply stained cork and full of Berry / jam and just a hint on tannins at this point in its aging. wonderful Petite Sirah!! — 9 years ago
This is the 2012. Nose has baking spice, dark minerality verging on smoke with wet earth and deeply sweet blackberries. Palate is full and rich with balanced acidity, a long finish, and just a bit of rusticity on the tannins. Somehow there's an elegance lurking under the chewiness. Might be from the cool climate or it might be the judicious use of oak. Either way, this wine has a freshness that sets off the brooding petite sirah nature really nicely. Really nice wine. — 10 years ago
The deeply saturated ruby-red '98 Domaine de la Charbonnière Châteauneuf-du-Pape 'les Hautes Brusquières Cuvée Spéciale' showed muted aromas of fig, leather, herbs and dark roast coffee. Some earthy terroir notes started to show on the chewy and lengthy finish. Definitely nearing the end of its prime drinking window, but still quite pleasant. — 11 years ago
I have tasted many of the top wines made on the east coast, these guys while new have made a tremendous impact in such a short time period.
This bottle was better than the last, especially getting time to savor it over a few hours.
If you are in the DC area or traveling through head an hour west and check out @rdvvineyards in the Middleburg AVA of northern Virginia.
More Merlot in the blend here offers an earlier approachability for a superb wine that has a plush core of deep red fruits, plum, graphite, purple florals, cocao and toast. A refined structure that frames the plush and pleasing fruit component well, it then transitions well into a contrast of energetic and persistence on the elegant, but deeply finish. The mid palate on this is insane, so deep and pure!

This opened up so deeply it was shocking, frankly. The deep cherry notes at the close after 45 minutes was revelatory. First 10 I've ever given. — 9 years ago
One of the wines of the night at our Hoboken Wine Group Riesling dinner. The complexity was off the charts!
A deep golden color with slight caramel notes, deeply vibrant in appearance.
The primary aroma notes were dried nectarine and deep honey notes, with veins of minerality, clove spice, and savory bouillon.
The palate was deep, expansive and long, with excellent acidity and flavor persistence. The honey makes me think there is indeed some botrytised grapes in the mix here.

Deeply beautiful wine, holding its own. — 9 years ago
Wildflower honey, deeply mineral, peach skin. 2000 — 10 years ago
This 2009 has an inky dark purple color and boasts an explosion of deeply layered fruits followed by vanilla, caramel, mineral and savory tobacco notes. It is full bodied and chewy, but silky at the same time. Big, but not overly extracted...super long finish. — 10 years ago
Surprising acidity, deeply earthy — 12 years ago
Deeply in love with this wine. — 12 years ago
black fruits- dried - w/meaty, savory notes on the nose. rich, complex, deeply flavored. Funky in the best way possible. medium acid and tannin. native yeast. — 8 years ago
I love @Angela Osborne 's Grenache, but was a bit skeptical on this one. The story was intriguing, pre-prohibition own-rooted vines planted in sand..and growing in the shadow of Ontario Airport east of Los Angeles. Did I mention Cucamonga Valley? But I should have known that Angela wouldn't have picked it if it wasn't special. Greatly exceeded expectations. Color was lighter than some Rosès, but this was no lightweight. Fragrant nose, nice acidity, a bit of earth and stems, but strawberry and just a nice purity to it. Best at cellar temp. Easy quaffer and a joy to drink. — 9 years ago
Super interesting flavored. Deeply profound fruits. Chery — 9 years ago
Rainy day wine while braising pork shoulder. Sensual and elegant expression of zin. Floral, spicebox, cracked black pepper, powdered sugar, raspberry jam, cooked cranberries, cherry compote, sweet wood. Juicy and rich fruits balanced by fresh acid and fine tannins. Perhaps making it up but I feel like there is a sand-like mineral taste/texture to the wine, like getting sand in your mouth at the beach but more delicious. Fantastic juice that is balanced and ethereal. Own-rooted, silica based sands, planted in 1915. — 9 years ago
Cork looked rooted so this was such a pleasant surprise. The nose shows hay, honey, baked peach and botrytis marmalade character, as well as a blue cheese and toast note. The palate is delightfully textured - medium-bodied and waxy smooth - with intense flavours of all that was on the nose, including (off-putting for some?) the blue cheese, while that hay-honey-citrus combines for a kind of sweet herbal lemon concoction. The finish is long, the acidity sneaking under the fruit and snaking it out with luscious complexity from go to woah. — 10 years ago
Turbid, deeply concentrated, blue black core saturated to a thin garnet rim. Medium plus intensity of ripe fruit, fresh florals, and dried herbs. Black currant dominates with layers of lilac, green bell pepper, cocoa powder, toast, black pepper and graphite. A dry wine with medium plus body, smooth texture, medium acid, refined forward moving astringency, a touch o viscosity, well integrated high alcohol 13.5% throws no heat. Concentrated, mouth filling lilac perfume precedes a long lasting black currant, black pepper finish. Bitterness noted but low. A well balanced, complex wine although a little confusing with Syrah due to the color and concentration of black pepper that lingers on the finish. Classic Bordeaux aromas with ripe but balanced new world styling. — 10 years ago
Great colour, deeply fruited palate, rich, round, smooth, light tannins, very good intensity. A big plump wine — 12 years ago
