Slightly bricking garnet clear as a belle. Nose is less bright red fruit that say a Ballard Canyon suggesting a warmer climate or growing season for this vintage. Hint of tar- a bit of Syrah? This botttle was picked up in a Calistoga grocery store in 2016 so initial storage may not have been ideal. Still a lovely mouth-filling round wine about to serve with a 12-hour brisket and kimchi slaw. — 5 years ago
The 2016 ‘Quarzo’ Syrah is drop dead stunning. Sourced from Ann Kraemer's Shake Ridge Ranch this instantly grabs your attention with its dark inky color and vibrant aromatics of ripe black cherries, fresh violets, smoked bacon, black olives and hints of earthy minerals all exploding from the glass. On the palate this is full-bodied, fresh and layered with a center of juicy dark fruits, black olives and violets that burst on to the long supple finish. This is a total gem of a Syrah from Andy Erickson and Annie Favia that is simply delicious now, but will certainly continue to evolve incredibly well over the next decade. — 6 years ago
Smooth well balance, full body and silky and clean finish and no imperfection — 7 years ago
The second vintage of Beau Vigne. On the nose; dark currants, burnt ambers, blend of blue fruits; blueberries, boysenberries, huckleberries & olallieberries. Dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries, dry brown soil, dark minerals, anise, dark fruit liqueur notes, cinnamon, clove, tree sap, a whiff of mint, herbaceous characteristics and decayed dark flowers. The body is medium full and rich. Tannins are 65-70% resolved. The structure is not their best, but, the length, tension and balance are quite nice. The blue fruits explode onto the palate. Blueberries, boysenberries, huckleberries & Olallieberries. They set a little syrupy. Dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries/cola, raspberries come on late, dry brown top soil, palate grippy dark minerality, graphite, dark fruit liqueur notes, soft, medium, dark spice, mocha powder, cinnamon, clove, light vanilla, tree sap, a whiff of mint, herbaceous (bay leaf) characteristics, lilacs, violets and decayed dark flowers. The acidity is round and nicely managed. The long finish is velvety, ruby, rich and beautiful. Shows a little alcohol but it’s tamed from the tiger I bet it was young. Still has another 5-7 years of good drinking ahead. Photos of; their vineyard and antique truck, Yountville tasting room, Owners/Winemaker Ed Snider and wife Trish. Producer notes and history...Beau Vigne was founded by Ed Snider in 2002. They are a small, family winery with a production of about 4,000 cases annually vintage dependent. They are primarily known for their Cabernets. Their vineyard goes by the name of Stags Ridge and is the benchmark and centerpiece of Beau Vigne. Stags Ridge Vineyard & Ranch are located on the Eastern edge of Napa, situated in appellation of Atlas Peak at the very top of Soda Canyon Road overlooking Pritchard Gap, Haystack, and Stagecoach Vineyards. They began with only a few acres in 2002. Stag’s Ridge is now comprised of nine acres, eight of Cabernet Sauvignon and one of Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot. As the Beau Vigne brand has grown, they’ve sourced from some of the best vineyards on the North Coast and Napa Valley such as Bacigalupi, Dutton Ranch, and Lewelling. Beau Vigne’s philosophy to winemaking hasn’t changed since their beginning. They are a boutique winery; which is generally a good idea to maintain very high quality. The family roots run deep in the Napa Valley. Martin Garzoli, Ed’s grandfather, arrived in the Valley in 1913. He was a Swiss Italian who, learned winemaking in Italy. Martin worked the Hayfields of Napa and Sonoma during the day and made wine in an old barn at night. Nearly 100 years later, Beau Vigne Family is still carrying on in the family tradition. — 7 years ago

Elegant Cab Franc! Tasted it blind and struggled to pick up on the green peeper notes that typically are a dead away for the varietal. — 5 years ago
Lovely white from UTAH!! Riesling, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Viognier. Light. 11.3% abv. Rather Chablis like. — 6 years ago
Nicely done! — 7 years ago
I love this, even though it's way outside of my typically tipple. I may have even made a few unsavory predictions about how poorly this would age. Sorry Pax. I was dead wrong. 14 years in bottle and better than ever. Glad I forgot a case of this in the cellar. — 8 years ago
Twomey Cellars originated with a vineyard, the Soda Canyon Ranch in southeastern Napa Valley, which the Duncan family, owners of Silver Oak Cellars, acquired in 1999. Dark Ruby with ripe red fruit aromas and complex spice. On the palate strawberry and cherry flavors with cinnamon, tobacco and espresso notes. Rich full fleshy tannins, nice acidity and balance on s lingering finish ending with earthy tones. — 8 years ago
Outstanding. Side by side with the '96 Dominus and holding its own. This is world class merlot. With 10+years these are Dead ringer for St. Emilion premiere grand crus. — 9 years ago
Warm year quite ripe but superb balance. Impeccable winemaking as always by Ridge. Earthy, dusty. Medium body. Clean acid cherry finish. Killer steak/bbq wine. Dead ringer for a nice Primitivo from Puglia. If you don’t know what that is, go fuck yourself. — 4 years ago
Last night I opened the 2014 Saarloos & Sons The O.G. Carbonically Fermented Grenache.
On the nose there is black cherry, raspberry, strawberry, vanilla, oak and a nice rich earth note.
On the palate ther are some nice notes of black cherry, raspberry, a ise, cinnamon, spice, herbaceous notes, oak and a nice earth component.
This is a medium bodied wine with medium + acidity and medium + fine tannins that lead into a long nutty fruit finish. With things the way there are in the world presently I pray that we all will be safe in the days to come and that life gets back to normal sooner than later. Nostrovia!!!!! 🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 5 years ago
The 2016 Vine Hill Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon is a drop dead stunning wine from the Phillips and their talented team of Mike Wolf and Françoise Peschon. This majestic Cabernet bursts opens to seductive aromas of dark currants, blueberries, spices, graphite, iron, violets and a touch of sage all emerging from the glass. On the palate this is equally as impressive, as it boasts a gorgeous full body that shows incredible depth, with a resonating core or ripe dark fruits that expands beautifully through the long polished finish. This is one of the most compelling wines from this fabulous vintage, and readers should not hesitate to get their hands on this years exceptional release from VHR. — 6 years ago
Nice California Pinot. Shiny of raspberries. Some tannins. Needs about an hour to open up. Went well with lamb kofta and grass dead steak — 7 years ago
I would love to put this wine in a blind tasting of all the Cult Cabernets. I wouldn't be surprised if this beat them all. It certainly would finish in the top three. Yes, this includes; Screaming Eagle, Scarecrow, Harlan etc.. It's so full, round, lush, elegant & perfectly ripe; blackberries, black raspberries, blueberries, plum, dark cherries, dark raspberries. Baking spices done just right, sweet lush rich moist dark earth, dry florals, fresh violets, spice/box, powder from crushed rocks, cocoa powder, suede style leather, a hint of stems, dead on acidity and an elegant round finish that doesn't stop. — 8 years ago
