Highland Park – The Dark. Really nice caramel nose. Slight spice and chocolate notes. Lingering boozy burn. Really good! — 6 years ago
Sultry: like a beautiful lady in a red dress smoking a cigarette in the dark corner of a speakeasy. — 8 years ago
Burnt umber color. Rich, dried red fruits, cherry liquor, honey, spice, and port aromas. Nutmeg, honeycomb, dark chocolate, walnut, and figs on the palate. Long, syrupy finish. — 8 years ago

Domaine rests atop a limestone plateau in Le Brûlat du Castellet, in the northwestern corner of the A.O.C. Bandol. Hocquard family has been farming this land since 1968, currently run by Agnès Henry. Tried ‘14 &’15 together. A blend of about 75% Mourvèdre with the rest Grenache, Cinsault & Carignan. Deep red with dark berry fruit and spice aromas. On the palate flavors of blackberry, black pepper & herb spice. Fine tannins, lingering with a fragrant ending. Consistent quality. Tasting Sample. — 6 years ago
Man o man did this wine bring it. Dark inky color with a nose that told me spring is right around the corner, I could see the fruit clearly hanging under the canopy - flavors of dark fruits, touch of graphite and South Georgia fat blackberries. That dude Austin Peterson waved the wand on this one and created one fine Syrah - my go-to for date night with the smoking hot wifey. — 6 years ago
This red wine blend is doing its job. Kind of briny earthy nose and lots of dark red fruit. Neither tannic nor acidic. Pretty good for the bottle I grabbed at the corner store when I was getting breakfast this morning... — 8 years ago
A brisk switch to grain. Butterscotch, dried dark fruits, sweet maltiness, adequate balance. Though a part of it sets me off, can't complain about much still. — 8 years ago
Yes, it is dark, and it really benefits from a healthy dollop of water. #darkorigins #highlandpark #scotch #delectableapp #oldlinefinewine — 9 years ago
Nose: dark dried fruits a la plums, raisins, and dark cherries, pungent oloroso sherry molasses-esque sweetness, spiced honey and toasted caramel. Quite sharp at the cask strength 60.1%. A bit of water cuts the numbing sharpness, and brings out the dark fruit and honey elements as well as the musty (in a good way) oloroso sherry notes. A very distinct orange ginger coffee cake aroma emerged with the addition of water as well.
Mouthfeel/body: very full and silky, viscous. Good tingle at cask strength. Not quite as viscous after the addition of water (obviously), but maintains its body and silky character.
Palate: More dark cherries, raisins, spiced dried fruit, cinnamon, more pungent molasses oloroso notes. A bit of water cuts the numbing sharpness of the cask strength alcohol volume and opens up the dark dried fruits notes and pungent sherry notes, as well as more spice.
Conclusion: Great whisky with plenty complexity and character for the price. Tastes a bit young and spirit-y at cask strength but since I typically cut it with a tiny splash of water, this hasn't been much of an issue. — 9 years ago
thank you Dave Blackmore for these beast. the name means 'dark and mysterious', the local loch, or lake where they get their water from for the distillery. ex-sherry casks and some deep balanced Palo Cortado tones with some Fino freshness. 2013 Whisky Bible Whisky of the Year. — 9 years ago
How this bottle which was hidden in a dark corner of my cellar was still good 11 years later is beyond me. Still perfect hint of effervescence. And not oxidised at all. Tasted like it was only 1 year old. Very nice. — 6 years ago
Dark yet clear caramel, almost like dilute coffee. Nose is beautiful with everything fragrance in concentrated modes. Nose is crayon, aldehyde, oak, minty, and sweet caramel. Taste starts with nice ripe apple, a bit salty note. Then some more warmth and notes from the nose. Smooth and right concentration. Aftertaste of dried fruit like dried apricots and mineral, medium long. Nice! — 6 years ago
Smoky and salty up front, but also has an understated sweetness that follows. Grassy notes, even some dark fruits. — 7 years ago
Oak and candied cherries on the nose with a perfume character. Light on the palate with a tastes of leather, wood, dark fruits and a hint of citrus. Not very sweet! Nice lingering finish. — 7 years ago
Blown away by this one. First had it at Mirbeau Inn after and incredible dinner. Fantastic drink. Smells like dark chocolate. Notes of dark chocolate in the drink. Some smoke. Notes of pepper. — 8 years ago
Bought for 10 euros in corner wine store in 12th. Dark. Plummy. — 9 years ago

It needed about 10 minutes once you pour to open. Then you sniff and get some caramel and vanilla. Taste is first mild oaky, with a hard rush of hot, fire, spice when you swallow. Mild vanilla finish. Then add a quick squirt of water and you experience less oak but with some ashe at first that leads to less spice and a finish of dark cherry. Then added an ice cube and boom made it even more delicious. The oak was mild, with a happy medium of spice and cool with fruity, toasted caramel finish. — 9 years ago
Love this wine, upper right corner is the teacher who used to rap his legs with a ruler. Softer and more approachable than the single vineyards. More floral and cranberry than dark stewed berries. — 10 years ago

Drinking this dark fruit and tannin heavy wine at a bar open since 1864. Pairs well with the loma de bief and helps cut through any fat. Sitting on a street corner in San Telmo you can taste the history and see the ruby red rich beauty. — 6 years ago
