Pale to mid Lemon in colour. Barrel ferment characters, leesy funky, touches of butterscotch and stone fruit. Went through malolactic. Some would say “worked”. Needless to say a lot of good winemaking on show here. Palate is more citrussy than stone fruit with a balanced creaminess very persistent flavours. A lovely and well made Chardonnay by Nic Peterkin. His dad founded Pierro who make one of the best Chardonnays in Margaret River and therefore Australia. His mother, Shelley, is the daughter of Di and Kevin Cullen ie. Margaret River royalty. Only 200 cases made. — 5 years ago
Continuing with the Langtons Classification tasting of the Best Australian Wines in the Outstanding Category. This Woodlands Cuvée always named after a Family member is their best expression of Cabernet. I have been buying 6 bottles every year since 2007. In the Wilyabrup dress circle over the road from Moss Wood and close to Cullen and Vasse Felix. Always one of the best in Margaret River. Just noticed @Delect Able that the 2010 is Heather Jean not ShelleyAnne. — 7 years ago
Incredibly delicious Chardonnay. I thought it was on par with Cullen and Leeuwin bottles, but 35% of the price. Amazing! — 8 years ago
Following discussion last week re Chablis @Ira Schwartz this 2005 Vaudesir Grand Cru showed very well. Nose of mineral/oyster shell with cut white flower notes. Restrained elegance with softening acids. Less is more! After 6 hours starting to show honeyed notes and not dissimilar to a top quality Australian Chablis style like Cullen Kevin John Chardonnay. Chablis is 2005 vintage. — 9 years ago
Can’t remember but it was a high quality and refined Pet Nat... berry fruit, low acidity, dry fruity finish
🥴 need to get another bottle and drink this first and not fourth. — 5 years ago
Notes of Capsicum (red pepper), mulberry and leafy notes. A good entry level Cabernet from Xanadu. Medium bodied with all the characteristics of quality Margaret River Cabernet but a little detuned. Xanadu is one of the up and coming wineries in the west winning major trophies on the Show Circuit like Deep Woods Estate who are challenging the established Margaret River hierarchy like Moss Wood, Cullen, Woodlands, Vasse Felix, Cape Mentelle, Leeuwin Estate etc etc. — 5 years ago
Continuing on with these amazing Margaret River Chardonnays. Following the Leeuwin Art Series and then Cullen Kevin John we now have the brilliant Pierro Chardonnay of the same standard. Aromas of cashew nut and citrus - on the palate stone fruits. Like a hypothetical cross between the Chablis like Cullen and the lusher Art Series. An excellent wine and sadly my last one. Margaret River has fantastic Chardonnay and brilliant Cabernet and blends. Begs the question as to how Chardonnay would go in Bordeaux. I guess we will never know — 6 years ago
mac recommended, really nice for this weather and to have while cooking din for rebecca n cullen — 8 years ago
Outstanding Chardonnay but a bit pricey! — 9 years ago
Leafy, tomato bush aromas - herbal- classic Cabernet descriptors from Margaret River. A sweetish blackberry note on the palate but essentially savoury with a tarry earthy note. With time in Decanter this wine improved even more - a really good medium weight Marg River Cab. Gralyn is in Wilyabrup and has illustrious neighbours like Vasse Felix, Cullen, Woodlands, Moss Wood and Pierro without their reputation as yet. They recently made this a “Museum Release “ charging $500 which is over the top. I’m glad I paid $80 at the cellar door about 10 years ago. Used to be served in Qantas Business Class back in the day when Qantas was flying internationally ✈️✈️🛫🛫 — 5 years ago
Very easy orange. Bright w a little funk. — 6 years ago
Thanks for the recommendation @Nicholas Carne — 7 years ago
1999 was just amazing. Knowing that Cullen doesn't even make them anymore. — 8 years ago

At my Cabernet tasting on the weekend. Thanks for bringing this gem Ken Gargett. This is Cullen’s top Cuvée - I had never tried before. One of those wines that is so balanced and medium bodied that you don’t think it will cellar whereas in reality it will cellar for 30 years. There was some lively discussion on this point at the table. Plum and dark cherry notes. A wonderful wine but a little expensive. Postscript: Only 261 bottles made. — 5 years ago
