Ethereal, bright and scintillatingly fresh, this was also dense, deep and backwards for its age. The color was red almost all the way to the rim and the structure was firmly intact with only a whisper of very fine sediments. Acidity was present although not out of place. Aromatics and flavors were astoundingly pure and effusive: mixed red pit fruit, black tea, truffle, dried florals and sweet wooden earth. There was touch of dried red citrus and tar which had me thinking the wine had been wound up with a reductive power as tha key to allowing for such glacial aging. If there are perfect wines, this is one. Everything in its place. What a transcendent experience. — 6 years ago
2017 vintage. Very fragrant and floral. Little bit of stemmy herbal-ness going on in the nose. Red and purple flowers: hibiscus, lilac, violet, rose petals, raspberry, peach melba, wild strawberry, green tea, lavender, tarragon. Tastes a lot like a good cru Beaujolais. — 7 years ago
Whereas most of Bandol's top estates concentrate themselves in the appellation's center, Domaine de Terrebrune, a personal favorite, finds itself on the eastern edge. While its name may connote heavier soils, a bedrock of limestone gives Terrebrune's wines their finesse and ethereal precision. With flavors of rounded river rocks, cherry pit, raspberry, Bergamot orange peel, and sweet garden herbs, the Terrebrune 2016 demonstrates why Bandol is such a singular place for top tier rosé. 50% Mourvèdre, 25% Grenache, 25% Cinsaut. — 7 years ago
Yeasty, bright, with fruit and nice acidity. Great wine for the price! — 7 years ago
This is no frivolous poolside sipper—a traditional Bandol benchmark, savory and dry, intense and layered flavors keep deepening and integrating with age. Beautiful burnished copper / salmon color, warming flavors of herbs and flowers complement ripe red berries and pit fruit. Perfect for the transitional season between winter and spring — 4 years ago
Great Cabernet, shared with Nancy on New Year’s Eve 2020. 👍😀🍷 — 4 years ago
Nose is all minerals. Like forest air. I love that. Palate is elegant, complex and crunchy as all can. High acidity and lovely freshness and finesse. Long finish gets some pitted apricot and peach flavors. Beautiful texture and mouthfeel. Like you’re sucking on a pit. What an overachiever this is. — 5 years ago
Limpid orange-pink. Vibrant, mineral-accented cherry pit, peach, raspberry and melon scents, along with building orange pith and floral nuances. Stains the palate with incisive red berry, citrus fruit and lavender flavors that deftly blend depth and liveliness. Shows superb tension and intense mineral character on the strikingly long finish, which leaves bitter quinine and blood orange notes behind. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, June 2018) — 7 years ago
Marzipan peach pit honey, medium bodied — 7 years ago
Allemand nightcap! From the terrific wine list at CUT Vegas. Allemand is truly one of my absolute favorite producers and this 07 Reynard from the master was superb. It’s deep, powerful and has a searing intensity. Ethereal and layered with dark fruit, coal smoke, black olive and violets.
There is superb concentration along with a firm tannic structure that is beginning to soften as it approaches its drinking apogee. It’s exceptionally well balanced with an incredibly long, palate saturating and harmonious finish with vivid energy and an elegant purity. WowWw. ☄️ — 4 years ago
This is drinking well now and has so much potential. With a bit of time in the glass to open up the honeycomb really pops out with some yellow apple and peach and white flowers. There’s good acidity and a good costing mouth feel. The pit of the stone fruit and under ripe melon and peach come out more in the palate with honey and dried apricots hitting later. — 5 years ago
Nice regal gold hue. Amazing pit fruit and wet stone nose. Plus notes of apricot, white clay soil, salty ocean breeze and some Raveneau honey on the finish. Rich and powerful in the mouth. Coats the palate with lots of fruit and fine grained acidity. I’ve had this a few times and this was at its best. Great Raveneau at age 30 is an amazing treat. — 5 years ago
Drank 2009 - still so fresh, lime in colour and zesty in the mouth, but with an undertone of oily aged delight. Fantastic. — 6 years ago
From 85-100 year old vines, the Vielles Vignes shows remarkable structure and character. A bright, stony vibrancy coupled with a broad, flowing lemon oil acidity. Citrus peel, peach pit, mango skin, perfume oils, acacia and orange blossom. Utterly delicious and constantly changing in the glass. — 7 years ago
Brilliant orange-pink. Potent, mineral-accented red berry, cherry pit and blood orange scents show very good clarity and lift. Taut and focused on the palate, offering concentrated red currant and bitter cherry flavors that deepen and become sweeter on the back half. Smoothly blends depth and energy and finishes long and minerally, with a suave floral note coming in late. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, June 2017) — 8 years ago

Sticking with the “great wines from grapes you’ve never heard of” theme for a while longer, why not join me for a sip of this alpine gem. Grown in the northerly reaches of Italy’s Valle d’Aosta, just over the border with France and Switzerland, and in some of Europe’s highest altitude vineyards (1200 meters) this wine is made from the Prié Blanc grape. Prié Blanc is the region’s only indigenous white grape, and is rarely found within the Valle d’Aosta, let alone outside of it. Vibrating with mineral intensity, the wine tastes of green apple, lemon cucumber, dried honey, and a hint of herbs. Electric acidity and a sort of peach-pit tanginess linger in the finish. Because the region is mostly tiny growers, Cave Mont Blanc is a cooperative, and a very high-quality one at that. — 4 years ago
