Burnt Spur

Gravner

Venezia Giulia Ribolla Gialla 1998

Reticent. Crazy copper hue. This was when he was experimenting with open top fermenters, pre-amphora. Lush, striking mouthfeel, but delicious burnt orange, citrus rind, savory incense quality. Out of magnum. Great experience, but would love to revisit this on day two and three — 7 years ago

Rod & Spur Barossa Valley Shiraz Cabernet 2011

Absolutely lovely. Perfect balance. Luscious and full on the front, but without being overripe. Peppery in the middle. Lingering finish. If only there were a way to get more! — 9 years ago

Nº 41 Jerez-Xérès-Sherry La Bota de Palo Cortado Palomino Fino

Wild roasted pistachios married with burnt Carmel. The acidity and heat burn off instantly and a beautiful nutty Carmel finish is the result - it goes on for what seems like an eternity - so this is what real sherry tastes like!!' — 9 years ago

Bolgheri Sassicaia Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2008

This is a wine that can be cellared for years to come. We opened it a little early but still a real treat. Straight garnet in color, burnt Carmel and sugar, black tea , a light eucalyptus perhaps and black tar on the nose.
There is luxardo cherry and cassis or kirsch element to the flavor. Great wine.

This is the sort of epiphany about Madeira or Port I've been waiting to have. Served as part of a savory course at Clove Club in London.

Any sweet element of this wine has relaxed to the background and gorgeous acid accompanies complex burnt citrus and smoky, nutty stone fruit. 45 second finish.
