My exploration of Canarian wines #2
From Tenerife.
Rich golden yellow in the glass and full of spicy peaches & pears with a dab of honey. On the palate this is quite rich, but with a core of volcanic, spicy & salty minerality that binds it all together. Nicely balanced and with a very decent finish. This is quite nice actually. — 6 years ago
Place: Tenerife (Canary Island), Spain from Yconde-Daute-Isora appellation.
🇪🇸
Vigneron: Envinate (Cuvee Viticole)
-
Grape: Listán Blanco; Vintage: 2017
-
Color: Deep gold to amber around the rim. Why is the color gold for a young wine? *** I don’t know, maybe skin contact, or oxidative wine making style? @brianmcclinticms @envinatewine
-
Nose: Not floral, not citrus, spices (cinnamon, fennel seeds)
🥂
Taste: Good structure, soft acidity throughout, sweet spice taste, interesting that it’s packing quite a bit of tannins for a white wine from mid-palate through long finish. — 6 years ago
A perfect aperitif. — 7 years ago

... The gentle GIGANT! Full body ripe dark fruit goodness with soft tannins, smoky, wildflowers, coffee and eucalyptus with a beautiful mineral brush. Long dry Woody finish it will transport you to a volcano in the middle of the Atlantic called : Tenerife. — 6 years ago
There really is something about island wines. We seem to have an affinity to them all—Madeira, Corsica, Sicily...and here we with are with Canary sack. Red, actually, with terrific poise, balance, and expression of terroir. Double decanted and enjoyed on the second day. Funky nose, with some sweet fruit mixed in. Peppery palate, wet stone, easy fruit, and great acidity. Another winner. — 6 years ago
Not a blend. It’s all Listan Negro from the Canary Islands. Tenerife to be specific, better known as a resort island where Scots and Brits go on holiday to get pissed. Light to medium bodied; peppery with strawberry/ cherry flavors. Light on tannins- more acidic. Pretty easy drinking. Could b a good summer red choice. Apparently this grape grows in Peru under a diff name — 7 years ago

This is a stunner. Flows through the mouth sumptuously. Hay, dust and lilies on the nose. Tropical fruits, peach, and volcanic minerals on the palate. An all around elegant combination of texture, acid and a touch of fine, fruity sweetness. — 4 years ago
