2007 Marques de Murroeta Castillo Ygay Rioja. Ordered off the list at Kokk in SF bc the bottle of ‘94 Artadi we brought was a bad bottle. Decanted this, but still just way too big. Stuck to the mouth; big, juicy red fruit flavor (plum jam). Infanticide. — 5 years ago
A second tasting of this Rioja after a 2 year gap. While I thoroughly enjoyed it last time I've nudged my score up just a touch as it was even better than I remembered. Maybe the extra time in bottle has helped or it was the hour in the decanter, or perhaps a bit of both. The tannins felt much smoother this time so this is one which benefits from some patience while it opens up over a couple of hours. — 4 years ago
Bright cherry nose
A well crafted wine, this has a medium to bigger body, sea salted cherry, oregano, pomegranate seed, orange zest, berry stem.
The tannins are gripping yet subdued by the wines character, and persimmon acidity.
An excellent and contemplative tipple.
