Birthday celebration for @Cody Uzzel at Lucio’s with a bunch of friends. All wines (except sparklers) tasted blind.
.
The only wine of the night whose varietal/region combination I managed to get right 🤪 Totally off on the vintage, though, but I should have known it was older when I saw Cody use the ah-so. This is typical Barossa Shiraz through-and-through. Gritty, powerful, loaded with red/black fruits, menthol/eucalyptus, tilled earth, and sure to impress for many many more years. — 6 years ago
Magnum 1997 Joseph Phelps Insignia. Drank at Archetype lunch w B&K K, J&L B, and M&R H. Second of the red lineup, following a magnum of 1975 Heitz. Much bigger and its youth showed. Lovely wine that we all really enjoyed. — 9 years ago
As good of a sparkler as I have ever had. This should be the archetype for all Pinot based sparkling wines. Perfect carbonation. Acidity is well balanced. Toasty. — 5 years ago

Black tea, marzipan, Madagascar vanilla, suede leather, butterscotch, turbinado syrup. maintains an oiliness and weight on the palate without any ethyl alcohol burn. For many the archetype of single barrels. — 9 years ago
Kinda straight-down-the-middle Bosché—which is a good thing. Not as lean, firm and Bordelaise as some and not as powerful as others. Pretty much an archetype bottling. — 9 years ago
Magnum 1975 Heitz Martha's Vineyard. Drank at Archetype lunch w B&K K, J&L B, and M&R H. First of the red lineup. Couldn't believe how this wine held up despite its age. Still had fruit on the nose and a long finish. Really balanced and in perfect shape. — 9 years ago
Archetype for #saintjoseph and for #northernrhône #northernrhone #syrah salted cured meats smoke herbal and juicy. Loved it. — 6 years ago

Magnum 2004 Bond Pluribus. Brought by Joe for Archetype lunch w B&K K, J&L B, and M&R H. Third of the red lineup. Big, big wine, but gorgeous. Tons of tannins and dark fruit. — 9 years ago
Archetype dry-as-a-bone Riesling from an apparently very young (mid twenties?) guy in Santa Barbara. Could be German (the wine, not the guy). Delicate. Very good. — 10 years ago

More bite than the soldera we drunk ahead of this one. Stunning beauty, archetype Nebbiolo. — 5 years ago
