Our New Year wine is 2005 Tenuta Sette Ponti Oreno Toscana. After 17 years, the wine is still vibrant and strong. The tannins are still present but have mellowed. A wonderful glass of wine having a great balance between the fruits and the soft acidity.

新年最初のワインは、2005年Tenuta Sette Ponti Oreno Toscana、スーパータスカンブレンドを開けてみました。17年の時を経ても、生き生きと力強い。タンニンは感じるがほどよく柔らかい。フルーツと柔らかな酸の素晴らしいバランスが心地よいワイン。力強くもしなやかに変化できる年にしたい。

Our New Year’s Eve wine is 1996 Calera Jensen Mt. Harlen Pinot Noir. The oxidation is prevalent. After 25 years, the wine has certainly passed its prime, but it is fun enough to enjoy. Goodbye 2021.

大晦日、2021年最後のワインは、1996年Calera Jensen Mt. Harlen Pinot Noir。酸化はだいぶ進んでいる。25年の時を経て、確かに飲み頃を過ぎてはいるが、十分に楽しめるワイン。 2021年よ、さよなら。

50-year old wine. Drinking an old wine is adventurous and exciting. Upon opening, it was clear from the aroma and color that the wine was still alive! We could still taste the remaining fruits supported by the good balance of acidity. The wine went downhill after two glasses. With social-distancing in place, it was a quiet night but a wonderful moment tasting its history.

50年前のワイン、果たしてどんな味わいを見せてくれるのか。古いワインを開けるはワクワク、ドキドキしますね。開けた時の香り、色合いから、これはまだいける！と期待が高まります。未だ僅かにフルーツ感が感じられ、酸とのバランスも悪くない。最初の2杯以降は下り坂でしたが、歴史を感じることのできた静かな一時でした。

Off vintage. A difficult year. Lighter in color than expected. The red fruits were very much alive but on a very delicate structure. Still enjoyable but wanted more from
Ornellaia. (Edited: On the second day, Ornellaia delivered! Wow. It is still delicate but in a perfect harmony.)

オフヴィンテージ1994年のワイン。思っていた以上に薄い色。フルーツ感は健在でしたが、非常にデリケートな構造の中に存在しているとでも申しますか、難しい年だったことがわかるワインでした。楽しめるワインでしたが、Ornellaiaからはもう少し厚み、芳醇さが欲しかった。(編集・追記: ２日目。Ornellaiaはやってくれました。とてもデリケートな構造の中に完璧なハーモニーが！)
