Supple, pretty big fruit still. Lacking in depth — 8 months ago
Blind tasting no2. We all immediately pegged this as old world Riesling. The tell tale signs of petrol and dried apricot gave it away entirely. But we all missed Austria. Probably need to learn more about differences in common Riesling areas.
Clear and bright straw yellow with powerful petrol fumes. Off dry but medium-high acidity with a low-medium body. Dried apricots with some slate completely dominate the flavors. It’s not complex, but has a good finishing length. Riesling for certain. Austria? Wouldn’t know! — 3 years ago
From magnum. Savory and spicy. Delicate with forest floor and herbs. Long — 5 years ago
That’s what I expect from a good Niederösterreich Riesling. Minerals, acidity, petrol aspects. Like it. Bit more age probably wouldn’t hurt though. Very bright and fresh acidity under it. No particular bouquet though. — 7 years ago
See you in 10 years. — 7 years ago
Tart citrus and lifted minerality. Subdued white pepper. Horseradish and cilantro. Medium minus body. Medium plus acidity. Not much of phenolic bitterness. — 8 years ago
Solid Gruner Veltliner for $22? Yes! — 8 months ago
@Delectable Wine : This is the Under the Wire Hirsch Vineyard Blanc de Noir, not a rosé.
I bought this as it was advertised as a rosé, but it’s just a Blanc de noir. Thankfully, it was a tasty mistake.
Killer fruit in the hands of MTP makes for a delicious bubbly. Opened alongside a 2019 Carboniste BdN as a comparison of Cali bubbles, they were on opposite sides of the spectrum. This UTW Hirsch was more big-house in profile whereas the Carboniste had a grower vibe. Pours almost orange in the glass. Fairly yeasty. Honeyed and orange marmalade. There is a perception of semi-high dosage here, but I’m thinking it’s due to how ripe the fruit is. Extremely creamy and layered. I’d be curious to know how these are at release, but this seems to be aging beautifully. Pop for freshness, but it’s not falling off a cliff any time soon. — 3 years ago
In magnum. Wow. Hint of sweetness, nice texture, sharp acidity. — 6 years ago
Kamptal Riesling featuring flavors of citrus and honey. Aromas of honeysuckle. Perfect acidity and beautifully balanced. Well crafted. Great with food. — 8 years ago
Rustic and hearty and a little bit boxy until it loosens. It's shy aromatically. Earthy, bing cherries, prunes, and crushed rosemary.
Tannin, structure, and acid seem intact when a little give would do.
Cali wildness that doesn't feel quite as psychedelic as the Chardonnay (see previous note) — 8 months ago

Mmm petrol right on the nose and early palate. Medium plus acidity. Moves into peach and fleshy/light tropical fruit with lots of fresh flowers. — 9 months ago

It’s got that CA profile. Dusty earth and tooti frooti but also has some good spice. But yea, that CA profile. Elegant, sweet and balanced. Not big but small and pure. Nice. — 6 months ago
