dessert course (rhubarb) — a year ago
We had the pleasure of opening the 2021 Hermann J. Wiemer.
On the nose there was nice strawberry, cranberry, raspberry, herbaceous notes and green bell pepper.
On the palate there was good strawberry, raspberry, red plum, green bell pepper, a bit of oak and crushed gravel.
This is a medium bodied wine with light velvety mouthfeel medium to medium + acidity and medium to medium + fine tannins that leaves with a medium to medium + red fruit gravel dust finish. Well it looks as though spring can't make up her mind. This weekend looks to be a bit on the cooler side so lets get out and enjoy ourselves. Please stay safe and healthy. Blinded a dear buddy in the wine trade on this tonight, guesses all over the place, in a great spot, want to see this in 10+Y.
72H Update:
Nose has crushed blackberries, ripe plum, dried plum, dried tart cherries, moist mahogany and faint moist soil. Palate has tart plum, light molasses, blackberry compote, faint leather notes and fine tannins. Not as good as day one, but no slouch on day three. A wonderful experience, many years in the bottle to go ahead. — 2 years ago
Don’t always love white wines, but enjoyed this one a lot — 3 years ago
I tried both the 18 and 19 and liked both, but bought the 18. I was surprised to like the 18 more given the vintage, but I guess that’s why we shouldn’t assume before tasting! — 4 years ago
See devious note: revisiting almost 3 yrs later: no more green, yellowish straw color & so much peach, apricot, cotton candy nose, luscious, great acidity still - has some zip leading to long dry finish. Fun w/Indian food. Still has more time if the cork holds out. — 7 months ago
Slightly vegetal, stone fruits, licorice and great acid. — 6 months ago
Taste melon, apple, apricots. Very easy to drink — 2 years ago

Popped and poured; no formal notes. The “Extra Quality” is a silly, old-school sounding designation…but this is sort of an old-school style of Champagne. It was a little “meh” on the first pour; unwilling to show much. However, with some air it opened up and displayed a pleasant balance of fruit and autolytic character. Works a little better with food than an aperitif. Disgorged May of 2022 — 5 months ago
