One of my favorite dinners was on the menu here at Chez Skip - cassoulet! And my knowledge of wine pairing is as sophisticated as a toddler eating spaghetti, I said to myself - hey I am eating French food and I like this French wine, so hey why not? And that was that. But as wine can be, it evoked its memory of when I had it first. I remember sitting out in the patio and being impressed with it. I thought to myself I could really enjoy French wines, but as history has shown, that was clearly a short lived notion.
Knowing it had been some time, I had an odd feeling, so I checked my Delectable history. Indeed, this was the very first wine I had rated!
So, to my friends, do you remember your first wine on here? Was it anything memorable? @philip Angino @Martin A. I think we need to repost all those un liked wines from 4 years ago,
Pre-NYE bubbles. This is terrific. Peach, some vanilla and raspberry. Delicate but not too soft. Still some substance. I wish all of my Delectable friends a happy and healthy New Year. Drink great wine and be with friends, family and loved ones. @Shawn G. Dark cherry and chocolate on the nose. Blackberry, vanilla and espresso mid-palate. Firm tannins with refined finish. Great QPR. Happy Thanksgiving to my #delectable family! @Ron R @Martin G Rivard @Shawn G. Rose @David A Lentine @Bill Bender @LM Segal @Eric Shanks — 10 years ago

It has been a ☔️️☔️️🍂🍂 weekend here in Chicago and I couldn't let this gift from @David A Lentine stare at me anymore. Time to pop some good stuff. Plus we have to celebrate a 💪🏻💪🏻 showing by 🇺🇸 at the Ryder Cup, right @Mike Rowe ⛳️?
I'm excited to try some of @Celia Welch wines that all you post so much of and rave about. 2011 was a difficult harvest but the initial swirl indicates no impact of that!
Once again @David A Lentine thanks for the generous gift and feeding my #napacab addiction!! #100percentcab #napavalleyforever

A visit from ol reliable while out and about tonight. When Frank Family is on, it's delicious, just like this '13. Drinking really nice at a young age. Epitomizes Napa Cabs currently with bold and fruit driven flavors. A lot of red fruits on the nose like raspberries, but the darker blueberries came through on the tongue. The fruit seems a bit extracted...medium oak presence. This is a crowd pleaser when needing to satisfy a large group.
Happiest of New Years to my DL family. 2016 was my first DL year, and it's been a great experience getting to share great wines with y'all. Thank you for your insights...it's been an honor. Cheers to 2017!

A solid 95 pointer,
I agree with everything @Ron R had to say, except I would say semi ripe raspberry.
Not ripe raspberry, get it straight Ron!

1998 Domaine G. Roumier Bonnes Mares Burgundy. Lunch w J&H R and Leon at The I.I. K took a chance on this wine- not a terribly notable year- and it was out of this world. HR particularly loved this. Bottle had been standing for 2 weeks, which K thinks contributed to making a huge difference in our enjoyment. Color was completely clear- no murkiness. We had a hard time pinning down the nose on this wine. No hard edges- super subtle in texture, taste, and nose. K makes note how surprised he was that this wine is drinking so epically right now. — 10 years ago
Wednesday night and trying to make it special - pulled one that I wanted to try some time - Dream team group involved with winemaking - grapes from all 15 AVA of Napa - only 600 + cases - 65% cab, 17% franc and merlot and petite Verdot - THIS is FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lots of red and dark fruits blended well and less earthy than expected - tannins are soft - Taste is subtle yet big and bold - balanced yet structured and dry but appealing - tastes of blue and blackberries strawberries vanilla - smell the same but even better - great wine for a Wednesday - only decanted for 45 minutes - man this is good - 😃🍷❤️ - cheers @David A Lentine @Martin G Rivard @Jim Trobaugh @Ron R @R Bowers - ok I will calm down since just middle of week — 10 years ago

Blanc de Blancs. MLF done. Dosage of 5 g/L. 4 years ageing. A lovely Champagne. Lovely richness fullness and concentration. Have known Legras with more incision and minerality but perhaps too early at this stage. I would also believe to be fair that additional bottle age will help the chiseled minerality to come through. — 11 years ago
Sark and intense. Velvet info finish with just the right note of smoke at the end. Excellent value. — 11 years ago
Go Falcons!!
I'd love to match Parkers 95, but I have to stick with 93. This is the darkest wine I have seen. Deep purple. Looks like motor oil in the distance but the red legs let you know its juice. Nose reminds me of Round Pond with a slight (very slight) touch of VHR. Fruit definitely must be from the valley or slight elevation. Blackberries, toast, spring flower, pine, slate, & red iron dust. Touch of mocha brought out with Tiramisu. Finally opened up after 4 hours. Not sure I would buy and drink again. If I did, I would cellar for years - at least 10-20.

I have the 99 point black label, didn't see the 99 points myself, nothing unique about it.I have known for years that Paso Robles makes great wine. This is an excellent example of what perfect weather, abundant water and great soils can produce. Deep rich dark fruit and extremely fine silky tannins! @Paul T @Ron R @Jim Trobaugh @Bill Bender @Jacqueline @Eric Shanks @Connor McMahon @Martin G Rivard — 10 years ago

11' Judge Palmer Beckstoffer Georges III. Santa Rivard, you can shimmy down my chimney anytime with this little jewel. In all seriousness, thank you very much! Have to agree with @Ron R maraschino cherries on the nose. The palate- Getting rich dark berries, vanilla/oak. A peppery herb mix throughout the palate. Sweet tobacco & cassis on the back of the palate. What a savory & nice finish. @Martin G Rivard 👏 — 10 years ago

Getting in shape for next week with the crew. Notes and rating to follow. @Ron R @Mike Rowe @David A Lentine @Martin G Rivard Edit; The nose on this is that of a first growth Bordeaux. Dusty red berries and spice. The palate is velvety, however the tannins are still there, giving this enough structure to keep aging. Stewed plums, baking spices, cedar wood, hints of oak, eucalyptus, earth, Nat Sherman tobacco. This just screams old world; but with a new world twist. — 10 years ago

My 200th wine!!
I probably spent a bit too long thinking about which wine to choose, having noticed the night prior that I was at 199. But then this bottle struck me and that was that! About a year ago, I had my dad "import" this from Canada because it seems Wakefield is hard to get in the US. It was one of the first wines I ever remember buying and then saying - i am going to make a conscious effort to buy more. So I felt this would be a good anniversary wine to see how far I've come, as there have been at least 200 cuvées since I started on here
I'm glad to say that I still think this is a very good wine. The nose opens with sweet cedar and cherry. It's fairly dark purple but still opaque. On the palate there are the typical notes of dark blue fruits. It has fairly soft tannins and a moderate finish. The #qpr is high!
With all that said - I'd like to thank all the folks that I follow on Delectable. I've learned a lot from each of you and I appreciate reading your thoughts and seeing what you're drinking. @David A Lentine @Ron R @Jody Scharf @Bill Bender @"Odedi" @Mike Rowe @Rochelle @Martin G Rivard @Bob McDonald @Fraser McKinley @Paul T @Shay Aldriedge @Eric Shanks @Matthew Beninati and everyone else who I may have forgotten!!
