Winemaker Joseph J. Wagner is a 4th generation winemaker from a family with farming and winemaking roots in the Napa Valley since 1906. Deep Ruby (darkest Pinot almost looks like a Cab) with aromas of ripe berries and spice notes. The palate shows rich black fruits, blackberries, plums and black cherries, vanilla spice, cedar and cacao. Rich soft tannins, firm acidity on lingering finish ending with mineral tones. Winner of the most obnoxious wax job this year. And to boot, adding a pull tab?

I was expecting better things from this wine. To me, it wasn't appreciably different from Meomi. If I had paid the same as Meomi, I'd be singing a different tune. But the #QPR is poor here.

You can tell a mile away that this is a Wagner family wine. There is the over extraction and sweet vanilla oak that dominates. I really thought with Pinot Noir things would be different. Now I'm thinking that they really only know how to make one style of wine and bending the grapes to fit the style. That, or they're just adding the Mega Purple to everything. — 9 years ago

Time to celebrate. Here's a wonderful wine for the occasion.

Deep inky in color with no rim whatsoever.

Beautiful nose of vanilla, soaked cherries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, figs, oak, leather, smoke, spices, wildflowers, candy corn and white pepper.

Full-bodied and bold, with a great mouthfeel, smooth and elegant, with medium acidity and great looking legs.

Fruity and dry on the palate, with blackberries, blueberries, figs, raisins, red licorice, tobacco, smoke, beef jerky, cloves, spices, earth and peppercorn.

Long finish with firm, yet smooth, tannins and cherries.

This is a wonderful Cabernet Sauvignon from the house of the Wagner family. Very enjoyable by itself as a sipping wine, on the porch, or with a big piece of steak.

Smooth and elegant with a great mouthfeel. Chewy and jammy, balanced and approachable. Will drink nicely in the next decade or more. Great wine, great vintage.

Needed two hours in a decanter to open up properly.

My first love when it comes to Finger Lakes Reds. Not a great vintage for Reds, but the shorter growing season for pinot snuck this one in under the radar. Lots of cherries and a hint of maybe olives? It has some lively acidity that makes it dance on your tongue. It's got the red strength without being overpowering.
