Château Gruaud Larose

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1978

An impressive effort for the vintage, the 1978 is showing a lighter core of dark cherries and dark raspberries alongside the more prominent leather, tobacco and tilled earthy tones. Not short of freshness or verve the 1978 should really be consumed now while everything remains nicely intact. Drink 2021-2028- 91 — 4 years ago

Long Shadows Vintners

Pedestal Columbia Valley Merlot 2006

The 2006 ‘Pedestal’ is a sinfully good warm vintage Merlot by superstar enological consultant Michel Rolland that is drinking marvelously at now thirteen years of age. Following a long decant, the Merlot slowly unveils ripe black currants that combine with sandalwood, cigar ash and Turkish coffee aromatics that meld together in the glass. The palate has tremendous freshness and verve considering its age, as this silky wine effortlessly glide across the mid-palate. Still showing serious power and concentration, the ‘Pedestal’ leads with a deep core of dark fruits that mingle with suggestions of milk chocolate, pipe tobacco, leather and anise flavors that sing in harmony. Fantastic now, this beautiful wine has at least another decade of life left. Drink 2019-2028- 94 — 6 years ago

Domaine Jamet

Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2012

The 2012 Domaine Jamet Côte-Rôtie is an absolutely monumental wine from this challenging vintage in the Northern Rhone. Tasted with eminent Washington vigneron, Christophe Baron, this beautiful wine needed more than an hour decant. The seductive nose picks up gorgeous range form red fruits to citrus rind and bulls blood as well as iodine that all connect marvelously in the glass. The palate has tremendous verve and energy, as the silky mouthfeel and wonderful tension in the wine create a lasting effect. A dusting of white pepper hits you instantly, alongside bacon fat, red cherry puree and red plum infused black tea flavors all marvelously aligning. The mouth-watering acidity to the wine is absolutely stunning. Fantastic now, this beautiful wine will continue to evolve over the next two decades. Drink 2019-2035- 95 — 6 years ago

BevMo Burgundy. Lots of gloss and sheen, but also some funk and verve. Ripe fruit on the nose, +tannin, and just teetering on the line of vegetal. More fun than it ought to be for young Burgundy, and better than it ought to be at $29.99. Would cop again. — 8 years ago

Linden

Avenius Chardonnay 2014

Tension, purity, verve and filigree come to mind here and can only take the mind to one place for Chardonnay: Chablis. OK so now the mind is set in Chablis with style but then we take a different take on the finish that was crazy long and pure, dry extract on full display here as this hummed along nicely to the finish. Another amazing Chardonnay from Jim Law at Linden. — 9 years ago

Château Coutet

Sauternes-Barsac Sémillon Blend 2003

I am amazed that sitting with this wine this weekend actually showed better than from a 1.5L several years ago. Glorious in all of its unctuous splendor, the 2003 Chateau Coutet is one of the great wines made this vintage. The balance mid-palate is incredible, as is the unctuous texture. Rich vanilla creme brulee, butterscotch and roasted pineapple tones combine with minerals, and sour mango on the palate. With serious weight and verve, this is really singing now at the seventeen year mark and will continue to provide drinking enjoyment at least for another decade. Drink 2020-2032- 96 — 5 years ago

Really excellent. Definitely could use a bit more time, with some air this is quite accessible today. Lots of great red fruit balanced by slightly dusty tannins. Great acidity and verve. Long finish. Really enjoyable. — 6 years ago

Les Chaumées Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay 2011

Just coming into its own now, but as a lover of Chablis and Chardonnay with verve this is awesome right now. White peach and stone fruit, subtle oak and malo allowing the fruit to make the statement and the mineral backbone drive it home. Classy. — 8 years ago

Pizzato

Fausto Verve Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2011

Dark inky in color with a short, dirty brick rim.

Strong nose of black currants, cooked plums, oak, licorice, spices, coffee, pencil lead, cola, peppercorn, leather, bone fire smoke, dark chocolates and sweet candy.

Full bodied and soft with medium plus acidity and nice legs.

Dry on the palate with plums, cherries, strawberries, currants, wood, licorice, spices, dark chocolates, black pepper, graphite, peppercorn, leather, vegetables, tobacco and espresso.

Medium plus on the finish with fine grained tannins and tart raspberries.

This is a very nice Brazilian Cabernet Sauvignon blend. Feels like an old world wine.

This 8 year old has a nice mouthfeel, but not fully balanced. The mid palate is very tasty, until the ending, which is a bit too tart for my taste. I actually liked the nose better than the palate.

Needs 90 minutes to open up properly and remove the barnyard notes.

Paired very nicely with food.

Thank you Alex for sharing.

A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Tannant. Aged in Oak barrels. A small production of only 4250 bottles. This blend was only produced in this 2011 vintage.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

89 points.

Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay 2006

California white Burgundy of the highest class. Bottle #2174 of reported 102 barrels. Still lively with prominent acidity in its 14th year. Flavors of hazelnut, cashew, pineapple, lime, granite and orange. Spicy wood flavors. Fabulous depth and power balanced by verve and delicacy. Could be at its height of complexity while showing aging colors and the beginning of matured flavors — 6 years ago
