Drinking window is now. Israeli Syrah needs to be in the conversation. Displays exotic spices of mace and allspice but keeps its symmetry with blueberries and hanging gyro meat. Where this separates itself from the Rhône Valley or Washington is it’s unique numbing character. The finish leaves your palate with the same sensation Szechuan peppercorns demonstrate. Structured tannins accentuate it’s fleshiness and edginess. Savory lovers unite on this one. — 7 years ago
Nice herbal spice, very gibbston — 8 years ago
Brought this to a min 1er cru dinner - kinda feel bad for that, but I thought a wine consisting of all of Prieure Roch's best crus would stand tall against the rest. So darn bunchy (perplexing, given how it's made; must ask Yannick). Good, but it wasn't the flower bomb of the 10'
Note from Prieure Roch's website:
There are years where the fickleness of the weather prevent the even ripening of all the grapes on the bunches, and as the grapes cannot be harvested before the stems themselves fully ripen, on these years any extra ripe grapes will detach themselves from the stem while on the “table de tri”(sorting table). Since the traditional Burgundy vinification methods require the grapes to be fermented “entière” (in whole bunches) the loose berries are not used, despite being wonderfully ripe. However, taking all of these loose berries from every vendange, every cuve, permits us to unite all of our best crus and create one “cuvée spéciale”. This “tri” (selection) has in effect been made by the grapes themselves hence the name Pinoterie (Pinot-tri, understand the pun?). Natures choice, ripe voluptuous fruit, sheer pleasure.
Perhaps the most expensive bourgogne out there. Then again, it's a wine featuring a mix of premier cru and grand cru fruit. — 8 years ago
Isn't she lovely! Has aged very gracefully -- has that lively, acidic backbone; cute little tartaric crystals in the bottom of my glass; rich, golden hue; sweet-seeming petrol-ish nose; cleans up unite well for a bone-dry finish despite its Spätlese status; overall, delighted to be drinking this gem with good friends. — 9 years ago
Red and blue fruits give way to orange zest , animal fur ,baking spices violets and minerals . Rich and full-bodied on the palate yet has Wonderful elegance and mineral infused finish with lingering cherry and dry extract . This wine comes from the valley floor and you get the richness and depth from the heavier soil. A stunning bottle that will improve over the next few years and last at least a decade more . — 6 years ago
A deep wine made by a coop. Very very good. Timorasso maceration — 6 years ago
This is my favorite white wine. I’m a sucker for earthy/yeasty/cloudy wines in red so this is quite a surprise in white — 7 years ago

Refined & subtle after all these years. Raisins and cloves abound. Drink soon! — 8 years ago
More spice and less full fruit character than Central/Gibbston expression.. nose says plum but palate is dominated by Sour cherry giving freshness. Tasted back to back with the Etna, this lost bigtime. — 6 years ago
Great wine from Piedmont — 6 years ago
Strawberry Citrus? Is that a thing? It is for this wine! If you can find it, buy a bunch, your glass will be empty quite quickly.

Dark and luminous. On the nose, this is a dead ringer for a big Gibbston Valley pinot. Red and black fruit, cherry, but the spice is the overriding trait. A very spicy cherry character with lovely silky mouthfeel. Broad but a little less structured and a bit shorter than a Valli or Gibbston Valley, but at $52, much better value. — 5 years ago
