I’m usually a fan of dry reds, but bring on the wets baby! Just a delightful fruit-forward expression of cab sav. Just when you think you have a handle on the heavy vanilla aftertaste a strong gust of butterscotch takes over your taste buds. It’s a beautiful cab that lives up to the Caymus reputation. 10/10 would slam another glass again. — 8 years ago

Steve Peck- Great gumdrops! I really like this wine. Ripe fruit flavors with elegant structure. A legendary wine that actually lives up to its renowned reputation. — 10 years ago

Just like I remembered. Takes me back to our Saint Emilion visit. Lush blend of Merlot and Cab Franc. The tradition of the original vision lives on. — 8 years ago
Decanted for 7 hours. Still young. This wine lives up to its reputation. Absolutely stunning nose. Notes of tar, earth, spices, cherry. Medium body and simply beautiful. Bought on release. — 8 years ago
Second time within the space of a week! Decanted for 2.5 hours the wine initially a bit funky blows off and lives up to its glorious reputation. Next time will try a slightly shorter decant — 9 years ago
Wow. This lives up to its reputation. I had my doubts about all the new oak, but this is almost as if the oak is gently taming the wild, bombastic, flinty, minerally, herbaceous SB within. The finish goes on forever and I honestly didn't want it to stop. — 10 years ago

Mmmm....better. 1999 was a meh vintage to most critics. I find it has evolved to better things with this much time in bottle.
The nose reveals, ruby and candied; blackberries, black cherries, black plum skin, black raspberries, raspberries, poached cherries & strawberries. Touch cooked green bell pepper, mixed berry licorice, anise to black licorice, used leather, saddle-wood to cedar, dark, moist, black earth, limestone, stones, graphite, vanilla, cinnamon stick, clove, nutmeg and dark spice, coffee, dark chocolate with fresh & withering, dark, red, blue and purple flowers.
The body is just full. The tannins are soft, round, chewy and tarry. The structure, tension, length and balance are pretty good for 99. ruby and candied; blackberries, black cherries, black plum skin, black raspberries, raspberries, poached cherries & strawberries. more cooked green bell pepper on the palate, mixed berry licorice, anise to black licorice, used leather, saddle-wood to cedar, dark, moist, black earth, limestone, stones, graphite, vanilla, cinnamon stick, clove, nutmeg and dark spice, coffee, dark chocolate with fresh & withering, dark, red, blue and purple flowers. The acidy is nice. The finish is elegant, well balanced but, not as rich as other good vintages Palmer. It is spicy and persists minutes on the palate.
Photos of; Chateau Palmer, their barrel room, a photo of their vineyard soil structure-if you didn’t know where all that earthiness comes from, a picture is worth a thousand words and their tasting room. — 7 years ago
Funky and tart! Apple cider vinegar — 8 years ago
Plum, prunes, creme de cassis, truffles, forest bottom, cigar box. Redolent of vintage port. Still remarkably vibrant for its age. Ruby core, tawny rim. Ullage low shoulder. Cork intact but fully wine-soaked. A great wine that lives up to the hype. A real treat! — 8 years ago
Smooth as silk woven by a thousand of the finest blind nuns — 9 years ago

Flowers. Violets. Cherries. Earth. Plums. More tart cherries. More flowers. Lives up to the hype. Amazing Beaujolais. Needs 30-40 of air right now. Has many years ahead. — 6 years ago
