The Joseph Party and the 1983 Insignia from 3L.
The nose show lean, stewed fruits. While it is always a treat to drink their older vintages, this one probably better served 5 years early. Still enjoyable. Blackberries, dry, dark cherries, rhubarb, bright cherries, ripe strawberries, old leather & tobacco, limestone minerals, cedar to saddle-wood, steeped tea, touch mint & dry herbs, crushed dry rocks, underbrush, forest floor with withering, dry red floral bouquet.
The body is lean and very well resolved tannin structure. The tension, structure, length has lost some their step. Blackberries, dry, dark cherries, rhubarb, bright cherries, ripe strawberries, old leather & tobacco, limestone minerals, cedar to saddle-wood, steeped tea, touch mint & dry herbs, crushed dry rocks, barnyard, pine twigs, underbrush, forest floor with withering, dry red floral bouquet. the acidy is nice. The finish while fun, interesting has lost some of its flare but, again, still enjoyable. — 6 years ago
A treat. Dark in color, slightly cloudy. A powerful nose with dark, very mouton fruit. Incredibly aromatic, blackcurrant, mint, graphite, dried herbs, eucalyptus. The palate is extraordinary. So dense and powerful for a wine of almost 70 years. Dark fruit with a savory undertow- leather, thyme, sour cherry, dark chocolate. Really precise flavors and long. After an hour or two in glass there’s notes of coconut and soft wood. Extraordinary. Clearly there’s a lot of age on this but the sheer quality makes for a really dynamic wine. An exceptional bottle, and a teal treat. — 7 years ago
Magnum 2001 Dominus Estate. D fam dinner at Tap. Spectacular and loved by all. The super green veg notes had mellowed and rounded out. Nice balance of earth, soil, and dark, sour fruit, tho to a much smaller degree. Such a great treat. — 9 years ago
29 years old and drank incredibly well. What a treat. The big fruits have softened but in their place is now a brooding torrent of notes which evolved from sip to sip. Quite a remarkable wine. — 9 years ago
New Year’s Eve treat with a perfectly cooked medium rare prime rib. One of the greatest wines I’ve ever enjoyed. Ranks up there with the 1966 laffite. Thanks Kirk Fry. — 6 years ago
A standard favorite in our home and one my father and I were able to enjoy together...a real treat! — 8 years ago
A wine from Anthony that's finally ready. Just kidding. It's the volatile acidity holding this wine together. Completely resolved tannins. Ripe lean; blackberries, dark cherries, blueberries. It's almost all fruit with just a hint of earth and minerality. Fun to drink. I always like to ask, what were you doing in 1978? Nice of Lilian Barton to model the bottle for my photo. Thank you for bringing this wine. A real treat to try. — 8 years ago
Lots of life left in this wine. What a treat. From 3 liter. #josephphelps biased review — 9 years ago
This was really drinking well with notes of black currant, plummy fruit with leather, earth, graphite, mocha, black olive, mineral & sweet tobacco. Always a treat to taste a Haut Brion even though this is considered an off vintage. Med bodied that seems close to maturity & should keep another 10- 15 yrs. — 5 years ago
Birthday treat - cassis like but drier classic palate with a terroir that encourages Parker’s opinion of greatness. — 6 years ago

Sushi and Champagne is one of my favorite combinations. Indeed, almost all celebrations that @Cara Zimmerman and I enjoy together will include this duo. This was somewhat of a step up from our norm as Sushi Zo is a world apart from our usual delivery order of tuna and salmon rolls (with free edamame). Likewise this 1975 DP was rather more elevated than our weekly fizz.
Dark golden color with rich, brioche and mature elements. A touch too advanced but enormously attractive and retaining terrific purity and energy. Sushi and Champagne has rarely been such a treat. — 8 years ago
Deliciously earthy - with elegant finish. A rare treat! Thanks Chris and Janet!❤️ — 8 years ago
Brenda Terzich-Garland
A definite treat! A bronze garnet in color with some bricking, but young looking. Nose - cherry and currant fruits with notes of truffle, green veggies and cigar. Taste - ripened cherry and plum, tobacco and earth spices followed by notes of smoky cedar and cinnamon adding to its silky smooth long finish. — 3 years ago
