Sniffy Sniff: Raspberry, black fruit and spicy notes. Swirl: Smooth as silk, ripe red berries and a spicy tinge on the back end. This is really good Pinot for my palate. Wow. P.S. The 2010 Auguste Favier Reserve is drop dead gorgeous with it’s fresh and bright ripe strawberry tones, giving way to zesty red florals, sweet smoke, white pepper and dusty cedar.  It’s velvety on the palate, yet not weighty, instead poised and remarkably fresh, as red and blue fruits cascade across the senses over a core of brisk acids, leaving a mineral twang with savory spiciness. The finish is long and structured, with youthful tannins still holding something back for the years to come, yet still so alive and focused on purity of fruit.  The 2010 is worth checking in on, but don’t forget to keep a stash in your cellar for at least the next five to ten years. Enjoying the end of my Rosé stash from the weekend’s party. A delicate pink colour with a very fine, dry palate. Equally delicate notes of strawberries, rose petals, crushed gravel and orange peel. Continues to be one of my all time favourite Provençal rosés and a definite perfect summer patio sipper.

What a great wine for $30. It's concentrated, but velvety soft on the edges. Oiled leather, crushed rocks, dried flower petals, clove, and black currant are all ingredients to the inviting, yet soft perfume. The wine has a concentrated dark purple hue, and firm, yet forgiving tannins - a medley of red and blue fruits, Earl Grey Tea, vanilla, and green coffee bean to the finish. I thoroughly enjoyed this wine and wouldn't mind having a stash of this.. yum! 75% Merlot 25% Cabernet Franc. — 8 years ago

We decided to break into our stash of Scarecrow to celebrate the end of May and we were not disappointed! The 2006 is at its peak; the tannins are fully integrated and are soft. Distinctly from Rutherford with its dust and gravel on the palette that gets more pronounced with time in the glass. Red-black fruit flavors add to glass of liquid delight. This wine should stay in its elite status for several more years to come. — 5 years ago

The Northern Rhône example in our little, impromptu North/South face-off during Christmas Eve dinner. This is a European bottled version of “Les Journaries” which is labeled there as “La Maestria”. Most of the grapes are sourced from Levet’s holdings in La Landonne. The bottle was opened about two hours prior and probably would have benefitted from being opened two days prior in retrospect. That being said, this was stunning...and positively feral. Underbrush, herbs, brambles, flowers, meat, anise, and cinnamon bark on the nose and on the palate. As striking as this is right now, the best is yet to come and these will deliver even more joy in 10-15 years. These wines are a beautiful little secret. If you must, drink after a rather protracted decant otherwise stash these deep in the cellar. For those wondering, we paired a 2009 Domaine de Beaurenard “Boisrenard” as the Southern Rhône example which, while massively different in style, was stunning in its own right. — 7 years ago
