Forgot to post these from the other day. Mark, Dan and I were able to enjoy a relaxed afternoon at the wine storage facility, and some unique stuff was opened, as always!
Don’t think I’ve ever had this PM Chardonnay. Great nose of salted popcorn kernel and the finish had a mineral & stone driven note. Hint of caramel too. Probably in its best drinking window. Thanks Dan. — 7 years ago
Soy sauce, coffee, cocoa, aged gouda aftertaste. — 8 years ago
Don't tend to be a fan of this producer, but was gifted this and it's not too bad. Red apple skin, raspberry, blackberry, mocha, apricot kernel and slight dusty oak notes all in the mix. — 9 years ago
Deep gold in the glass with a powerful Apple nose, herbs pepper and green apples in the mouth with powerful acid to follow through with a long finish with a few years age will see more honey notes coming forward before kernel notes. 2014-vintage. — 9 years ago
On the improve perhaps? Really lovely. Acid ingrained with other phenolic and textural elements. Fine yet generous in flavour. Ripe stone fruit and the kernel. First class. 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽 — 6 years ago
Inspired by wine-buddy Thijs, I decided to pull the trigger on this one today.
And he’s completely right.
Explosive nose of fireworks, candied lemonpeel, peach kernel and decadent spicebox aromas. Nice and creamy on the palate, wonderful viscosity, spicy acidity (is there such a thing?) and mineral play on the long and fresh finish.
Kudos to Mr. Guffens. — 6 years ago
Lovely hoppy beer, refreshing and perfect for summer — 7 years ago
I’m not sure if I have ever had a Chardonnay like this. There was so much concentration here. Salted popcorn kernel, but also some pineapple? Incredibly unique. The finish was savory. One of the most complex chardonnays I’ve had to date. It’s been 2 hours and I’m still thinking about it! — 7 years ago
Our monthly 4th Friday event at the storage facility. No requirements, just wine you want to share with others! Always an enjoyable time.
If Dan is there, you better believe top flight whites will be a part of the show. Chardonnay on all cylinders. Not buttery popcorn, more popcorn kernel...saltiness to it. Creamy lemon, savory herbs, and full bodied. — 8 years ago
Mineral galore! Crushed rocks, wet river pebbles, mossy granite, wet wool, fresh straw, touch of gasoline. But also spun sugar, lemon oil, peach kernel, incense, old foudres. Crystalline, complex and carressing, this is a helluva dry (!) Riesling from the same Grand Cru site as the famous Clos St. Hune. This is a real eye-opener for me, maybe a tad too advanced for its age, but at 18€ an absolute recommendation to buy. And drink. Right now. — 9 years ago
Wednesday Wine Committee hosted by Dan. 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine. Tasted blind as usual.
I guessed the producer was Marcassin. At the end of the day, Marcassin is just so distinct when compared to other Cali chards, and it’s always magnificent (for my taste). Smoked lemon, grilled marshmallows, sea salt, popcorn kernel and almost sulfuric. Impeccable. — 6 years ago
This was very much in the savory style so I’m not sure if it’s due to age or just the style (not a lot of experience with this Kistler chard). Sea salt, popcorn kernel, grilled lemon and baked peach pie. Lovely texture and acidity. The ‘10 Aubert Lauren it was poured alongside had more of the rich, sweet lemon cream notes, so that may have highlighted the savoriness here. — 6 years ago
This is absolutely gorgeous. Black tea, licorice root, graphite, smoke, burnt popcorn kernel, musty Bordeaux style. Tremendous structure, dusty chalk and dynamic acidity, especially for California Cabernet. Black pepper, heat and severity with tremendous nuance and quite a set of balls. Baby Monte Bello...all of the complexity with a little less of the weight. — 7 years ago
4th Friday of the month means Classic Wine Storage happy hour! Great wines, as always, today!
These older Marcassins sure are something else. Very savory. More popcorn kernel than buttery popcorn. A saltiness to it. Still showing nicely, but the sweet and citrus style fruit has disappeared. Very nice acidity and the structure/texture is impeccable. — 8 years ago
Super creamy texture but retains bright granny apple flavor and bright acid. Kernel present even though all neutral oak. Soft. Beautiful chard. — 9 years ago
A lovely blend of key lime and green apple, a touch of honey dew, intensely flavored. A touch of chalk and kernel, the latter mostly aroma. High acid, medium to light body, strong finish initially but clips off. — 9 years ago

Got this wine at a smoking good deal. After trying this with substantial food and aperitif type foods and nothing at all, this wine is more delicate than it seems. Nose is popcorn kernel, Asian pear and honeydew. Body of this wine with rather good acidity throughout. Hints of peach and pear and buttered popcorn with nice salinity. This wine doesn't seem to really hold up to significant fare, yet went very well with Brie cheese and crackers. Interesting to see how it would have gone with buttered popcorn! I think this one might mature over the next couple of years. But not doing bad at all right now. — 6 years ago
