Revisiting this first release of Fenaughty Vineyard Syrah 2 years later and I really like where it’s headed. Less fresh and crunchy and more resolved and elegant, showing its depth and layers. fleshy black cherry, strawberry, pastille, dried herbs, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, incense and a granitic note. Reminiscent of Cru Beaujolais more than northern Rhone. 12.6% abv. An intriguing alpine California Syrah and an ideal pairing with rustic Berkeley-bought, French-inspired fare. — 4 years ago

This takes it's time to open up, blossoming slowly with sweet violets, lavender, wild strawberries and clove. It's soft and juicy, contrasted by nervous acids, tart raspberry and blackberries mixed with autumnal spice. I didn’t know it was possible to enjoy a Pinot Gris this much (outside of Friuli or Alsace). This unfiltered, 3-days-on-the-skins version from Tessier is evocative and vivid: golden apple, white peach, pennyroyal, bergamot. A single-vineyard wine from Filigreen Farm, a self-sustaining, biodynamically famed vineyard in the Anderson Valley. — 5 years ago
