If @Cathy Corison made cab blends in Tuscany, they would be this great. Complex, begging for some age to strut. Gorgeous aromatics after an hour decant, followed by layers of dark and light red berry, asian spice, bridle leather and a hint of mint. Built to last (but no oak or vanilla to speak of), just silky tannins front to back. Outstanding. 20 years to go. — 5 years ago
Woodward Canyon has gained a national reputation for producing high quality Chardonnay. This great new release, the 2017 Woodward Canyon ‘Washington State’ Chardonnay, is sourced from a host of great vineyards across the state. The wine was aged in a small percentage of new French oak prior to bottling. Ironically the wine was bottled on my birthday in May, 2018. The nose takes on a ton of appeal with roasted pineapple, toasty oak, Pink Lady apple and brioche aromatics. The palate shows a wonderful tension, astringency and richness. Gravenstein apple, brioche, and Meyer lemon creme brûlée flavors all strut their stuff in the glass. This is a gorgeous wine that has some good cellaring potential. Drink 2019-2029-

Tasted blind out of a decanter, this was not budging initially and felt lean, maybe stilted, and angular next to a plush 2015 Voge St. Jo. After an hour or two, the wine started to expand, and impress. Of course, after revealing, we were all present to the majesty of Thierry’s touch. This was not as brooding and dense as I remember it, rather, it felt like the wine was reluctant to strut its stuff until we required it to. Forget about the 2010’s for awhile. — 5 years ago
Easily one of the best merlots coming out of Napa. Interestingly enough, I think the ‘11 vintage probably benefitted this wine as it has gorgeous restraint. Black cherry, cassis, little bit of blueberry, toasted oak. Needed almost 2hrs in the decanter to really strut its stuff. — 6 years ago
An interesting companion piece to Ruscum, as both show surprising tannic muscle and lees weight. Attractively smoky, and the fruit, while present, is secondary to the complexity of this wine. This requires some aeration to really strut, perhaps a function of the long lees-aging. Provides gravitas to a simple preparation of spaghetti bottarga. — 7 years ago
Watchin’ the Celts and drinking a decidedly old school Zin. Only 13.2%, the grapes originate from rocky mountain terroir. Classic Zin nose of brambly, inky blackberry, and cracked rock minerality. In the mouth is where it diverges from most current-day fruit bomb Zins. It’s relatively lean, with noticeable dynamic structure and great acids. The fruit is there, but it doesn’t smother other aspects of the wine. Retro in the best way. This would absolutely strut with tagliatelle in bolognese or papardelle with duck sauce. — 5 years ago
Waaaaaaay too young. Nose is gorgeous. Lovely earthy elements. Deep. Lilacs. Beautiful. Super clean cherry fruit. Tastes like a 6 month old wine. Hints of cherry licorice. Silky tanins. Needs another 3-5 to strut its stuff. Will be awesome then. Drink from a Bordeaux glass. — 5 years ago
Wednesday Wine Committee. 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine. Blind as usual.
Label was in bad shape but the wine wasn’t. Very Oregon like in my opinion showing plenty of herbal character but a core of black cherry, old fig and red clay blend together nicely to make the layers of this strut its Burgundian pedigree. I called this Oregon pinot. — 5 years ago
Welcoming in 2019 with our dear friends The Millers and this almost perfect Port. We paired this with a magnificent Blue and biscotti, Mandlebread, and almond cookies...all not too sweet to enable the Port to strut its stuff and boy did it! — 5 years ago
An enormous wine, two hours of decant showed promising primary flavors with a hint of secondary after some time in the glass. Will need another 10 years to strut its stuff — 7 years ago
Had it not been for the 1982 Trotanoy this would have been WOTN. Absolutely incredible and the best showing I've experienced with this incredible wine. Another one that really needed some air to strut its stuff but when it busted out we were all blown away. Maybe my favorite Palmer and as good as it is now I imagine another 5 years and this might be a prefect wine — 7 years ago
a fantastic wine to drink...ready to strut....blueberries wafting from the glass...wine of the night — 5 years ago
Captivating nose on opening, with rich floral and dark fruit tones wafting from the bottle as soon as I pull the cork. This seems to be at peak for my palate. The tannins lay out a fine blanket on which the black cherry, black raspberry, and faint brown spice notes strut their stuff. There’s a pleasing old leather element in the finish, which just rolls on and on. This was my first Greer and I’m smitten. Fantastic wine. — 5 years ago
Just starting to strut its stuff. Fresh, deep, complex filled with dark berry fruit but not heavy. A great value and finished long.. — 5 years ago
Closed for the first 30 mins. Really wants a decant to strut — 5 years ago
One of the sexiest wines I’ve had in a while, and that’s saying something. Velvet smoking jacket cool. The nose is campfire, pen ink, toasty oak, briary berries, cherry cordial, freshly turned soil. The palate is a cacophony of flavors; rich and reduced red berries, blueberry pie, leather, warm spices, cedar, red and black currants, beef jerky, menthol, earthy minerals, charcoal smoke, river stones, fresh tobacco leaf, black plum skin. Says goodbye with a very firm handshake. Finish lasts for a solid 2 minutes. Took about a 4 hour decant to really strut its stuff. A relative baby; she’ll continue to evolve for another decade or two. Not quite ready for marriage; but right now is a great time to go for a spin with this fun, racy young woman. Thank you @David L for gifting this beauty. Wishing you and Kristen a very Happy Holiday Season. — 5 years ago
This one fared better than a few of my 2012s. Tastes like what I hope for when I open one of these- a briny swim with a slice of underripe melon. At one point, it hit me with a suggestion of pine nuts. Showing more stone fruit with air. This seems very ready to strut its stuff. — 7 years ago

The first German Riesling we ever sold. Always has a spot in my heart.
1er cru from young gg grapes. The more muscular of the two most known vineyards. I’m not going to try and spell it here.
Had pork in cider for dinner. Was in no mood for subtlety.
Nose is a big-un. Dense as heck. Stone fruit. Herbaciois but not vegetal.
Palate has great minerals but they take a back seat to the concentrated stone fruits. Still has that mineral grip. Bracing acidity keeps it fresh. So damned well made. Mountain stream freshness.
Needs 30 minutes to strut its stuff. And strut it does. Ass whips grosses Gewachs from all but the tippy top producers.
