Nice drink to celebrate something - not too sweet, not too dry. Golden color. Fresh and fruity aroma. Citrus and apple notes in taste. — 10 years ago

This is Doré, not whatever delectable are calling it.
Drinking this with Lou, who owns Clever Polly's in Melbourne; I know most of you lot are very international drinkers, and I couldn't urge you enough: if you're ever in Melbourne please go visit Lou & her incredible little team at Clever Polly's, best wine list in Aus. Best place in Aus by far. Great things to come — 10 years ago
Delicious. 11 years in the bottle and still perfect. — 12 years ago
This is not the Carignan blend, but I can’t seem to edit the descriptor. This is the 2012 La Joupatiere and it is one of the most unique and interesting wines. Thank you Colline de l’hirondelle. As their website explains, “The oldest vineyard in the village! Planted at the end of the 19th century, it miraculously escaped phylloxera and the uprooting of old vines that has plagued the Languedoc; this tiny one-acre plot is a conservatory of rare and disappearing varieties. A local vine scientist has identified the following 13 varieties: Carignan noir, Grenache noir, Cinsault noir, Mourrastel Boucher noir, Rivairenc noir, Grand Noir de la Calmette, Mourvèdre noir, Terret noir, Terret gris, Terret blanc, Olivette blanche, Chasselas doré, Valencin rose and two mysterious varieties are still unidentified.” What a blend. — 7 years ago

Part of one of my Foxen wine shipments, always a pleasure to drink - and why not tonight?!? The Grassini vineyard, a relatively new vineyard planted in 2002, specializes in Bordeaux varietals, in the Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara AVA (designated in 2009). Happy Canyon is located in the easternmost end of the Santa Ynez valley - a unique microclimate with loamy-clay soils that produce low yielding, highly flavorful wines. Foxen, founded by masters Dick Doré and Bill Wathen in 1985, is one of the most iconic and notable wineries in the Santa Barbara county, (and one of my personal favorites!), that produces high quality Bordeaux and Rhône style single and blended varietal wines. ~$44 | #foxen #cabernertsauvignon #happycanyon
On the eyes: Deep, opaque, purplish-red, med+ stain, med+ stain, no gas/floc.
On the nose: Blackberry, mulberry, stewed sour cherry, and rich earthiness with a bit of smoke and petrol. Med alcohol.
On the tongue: Med+ tannin, med+ acid, Med+ alcohol, full round body. Sour cherry, mulberry, leather, cigar box with a long rich finish. Tastes of Bordeaux. This one drinks young and could use 3-5 in the bottle! — 10 years ago
Not Doré who's painted but good wine! A bit young but I don't have the patience to wait. — 10 years ago
— 11 years ago

Heidi doing what she does best! — 7 years ago
This is perhaps a little closed right now. Syrah-dominant with a fair bit of oak-treatment so will need a little while to blossom. Although it had the mellow character of an early-drinking wine, the winemaker told me that it needs 15 years to show its best. In fact, when I told him the 2006 I opened the other week seemed a little closed he told me to forget about it for another 10 years. Clearly one for the long-haul. — 7 years ago
Gah. So good. Mosel-esque with a depth that reads like egg custard. — 8 years ago
— 10 years ago
— 10 years ago
2012 en 2015.
Beau savagnin ouillé, sésame doré. — 10 years ago
Excellent (91)
