The 2016 Syrah is a very pretty wine from Greg Brewer's Ex Post Facto project. Racy and perfumed in the glass, with striking aromatic presence, the 2016 makes a strong opening statement. The red and purplish berry fruit is nicely lifted by floral and savory overtones from the whole clusters. It will be interesting to see where this wine goes in the future. Certainly the debut vintage is promising. Brewer gave the fruit, from Spear, 4-5 days of cold soak followed by a lengthy fermentation/maceration of 45 days or so. The 2016 spent 16 months in neutral French oak. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2018) — 6 years ago

The 2018 Pinot Noir (Santa Barbara County) is an absolutely gorgeous appellation-level wine. The purity of the flavors alone is just stunning. Sweet red cherry, mint and blood orange take on shades of translucence. Light on its feet and yet beautifully layered, the 2018 has so much going on. It is an elegant and alluring wine from the first taste. Vineyard sites are Radian, Spear, La Rinconada and Sanford & Benedict. Don’t miss it. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, August 2020)

On one of those “oh, shit it’s Mother’s Day” kind of days when you want to open something truely quaffable, after the perfunctory bottle of Moët, this is under appreciated. Best left for when you need to: a) impress on your first date with a supermodel b) convince Johnson that you are the man for the big Clarkson account c) apologise for forgetting your significant others birthday, or d) take a sling at Bourgeois depression
Fantastic drop, but probably better cellared for a while longer. — 5 years ago
Smells like fresh spear morello cherry and raspberry preserves with rhubarb pie filling with a hint of baking spices. Sweet fruit forward juicy goodness with pie crust blended into a drunken smoothie. Freeze and serve as the bonus adult flavor in a pack of Otter Pops—because moms need a go-to popsicle, too. — 6 years ago
Leather, cigar box, with some acid and sling bitterness on the finish — 4 years ago
This is obviously a young wine. But with that said, it’s like no other Pinot you will ever have. Buttered toast with jam on the nose and a nice balance of fruit on the palate. The wine lingers in you mouth and finishes dry. — 5 years ago
Crisp, spicy white pepper on the front with good acidity. Finishes with spear and apple notes. Nice balance and great price value. — 5 years ago
With so many young wines, it’s all about the fruit or acidity. Not with this vintage. This is the complete package. A great compliment to the grilled brazino at Shaker + Spear in Seattle. — 7 years ago

Excellent, but will get better with a little more time in the bottle. — 4 years ago
