I could drink this every day. Beautiful translucent ruby color. Nose of raspberries, orange peel, and sandalwood. Pure, weightless, and exquisitely balanced on the palate. Stylistically more on the delicate side of the range of Pinot Noir. No trace of alcohol heat, nothing out of place - just lovely. — 7 years ago

Very elegant, linear, focused and bright. Aromatics came on gradually and eventually showed excellent freshness and a floral dimension. Medium palate weight, good depth and core on the first night showing a decidedly high-toned, crunchy cherry and cranberry personality. Some sandalwood and crushed rock minerality going on as well. Firm tannins and solid structure. Threw a fair amount of sediment at the end and seemed a bit wilted on the second night. Despite that disappointment, this is certainly a fine Pinot Noir from an excellent vintage. It speaks of its place, shows restraint and balance and is an honest wine that isn’t trying to do too much. Good benchmark for quality in this price range if you’re looking for elegance and Burgundian character. — 8 years ago
Black cherry, some orange peel and clove. Apparently also sandalwood, but I never would have gotten that myself. A really lovely pinot. — 11 years ago
Lovingly carried back 12 years ago from the trip on which I (really) fell in love with the woman who is now my wife. Opened tonight on the occasion of our 10th wedding anniversary. Singing a beautiful song of leather cherries sandalwood and dried herbs. — 11 years ago
Dreams of Sandalwood...lovely... — 12 years ago
Echoing my last notes with this bottle. Maybe the first was
just a miss. Drinking really fantastically, although I am not sure how long a
life it might have. Flavor profile completely evolves with air. Initially Fruit is more red on the nose with hints of strawberry, but becomes
more classic Anderson valley dark cherry with some black fruit, but also hints
of strawberry sneaking in. The sandalwood and spicy notes are dominant, and also
carry a pleasant medicinal herbaceous undertone. With time also reveals some
dark flowers, bay leaf. Solid structure with mostly resolved tannins but fully
intact with and good acidity. Structure diddegrade a bit with air. — 7 years ago
The 2013 Opus One is an absolute stunning release, and is certainly one of most impressive young wines I have ever tasted from this estate. This shows a darker, more forward profile from this warm vintage, and is clearly one to contemplate, as there are so many complexities and working parts to this compelling wine. This instantly impresses as it opens to intense aromatics of crème de cassis, black cherry, blackberry compote and black plum woven together with mocha, sandalwood. The mouthfeel is voluptuous and beautifully concenrated with deep and penetrating flavors of black cherry, créme de cassis, blackberry cobbler, anise, sage and anise, which all resonate beautifully across the palate. This is already extreamly appealing, but try to resist this hedonistic wine for at least another few years, as there is undoubtedly a long future ahead. Drink 2019-2035-99 — 7 years ago

Less sandalwood than expected. A bit tight but this could be because the wine was served chilled. Cherries, promegranate, pure floral nose, cool red fruit, oversoaked blueberry tea. With air, acidity and tannins begin to show. Crazy how prices have gone up to stratospheric heights. — 8 years ago
This is my Hurricane Harvey wine. After being housebound by flooding for 6 days I decided to open this gem from Morlet which shows all the classic Knight's Valley character I love. It is a treasure of cassis, black currants, incense and sandalwood, tar and menthol. Black pepper and spice box. The palate is a layered as is the nose, with a succulentdark fruit core framed with understated, fine,, mouthcoating tannins. 15.0% alcohol — 9 years ago
Can't believe I've held on to this treasure for so long! Cedar and sandalwood on the nose. Silky with a bright and savory--almost vegetal--finish. Perfect with filet and steak-house style garlicky creamed spinach. These grapes were picked when I was still in high school! — 9 years ago
Mostly dark fruit (black currant, blackberry, blueberry) with a hint of red fruit splash mixed with red meat, sandalwood, tobacco and a hint of blood. Still acidity left, I only have a little problem with the noticeable oak & hint of greenness on the back end. Medium body, good length. Best Zinfandel I've ever had (only had a handful so no reference point). — 10 years ago
5-Oh Bday Dinner... Lighter than the Rousseau in the glass. Translucent. But the nose stops you in your tracks. Wow. Huge perfume of cherries, sandalwood, brown spice, and violets. In the mouth it's very round with everything integrated perfectly. Finish is great but not as good as the nose. A really great Dujac. — 11 years ago
Earth, dark berries, sandalwood. Nice bite on the finish. Good value. — 11 years ago
Gorgeously complex, cedar and sandalwood notes, dried flowers, rose petals, dried red fruits, tobacco, tar, and minerality, ripe and mature tannin still very present but well integrated, good acidity. — 12 years ago
What you get for the extra $10 (and 250ml less) from Emperatriz Eugenia is massive compared to the entry Don Nuno (both Oloroso). Depth, complexity, something to think about.
Mahogany caramel colored with aromas of sandalwood and sweet dates. Winey sweet palette of dried figs, golden raisins, and burnt toffee. — 7 years ago
1967 Bordeaux is much maligned, but like many things from the vintage, this wine over-delivered. Nobody could ever call it “over the hill”, and aromatically it is amazing with bright fruit and Sandalwood notes combined with the mildly sour aromas of aged Bordeaux. The wine lacks weight on the palate, though, and I suspect it always has. The label says “14%”, but I’d bet it’s 13, at most, from this notoriously un-ripe vintage. — 8 years ago
This actually needed time to open up and get rid of the tart character. Expressive nose of sandalwood, porcini mushroom and red fruit. Herbaceous and a bit funky. Quite sour on the mid palate. Sour cherry gives grip and length. Distinctive. Wanted to like this more — 8 years ago
Still loaded with nice cherry fruit and cedar and sandalwood spice. Delicious! — 9 years ago
This 1993 Brunello with a 90 minute decant is aromatically brilliant! With flavors of rose petals, rose water, cherries and a nose of sandalwood and anise with a long finish this Brunello while on the downside is brilliant. Probably should have been drunk 5 years ago — 10 years ago
This is beautiful and why I want to drink more Nebbiolo. Strawberry/Violets with sandalwood notes; lithe, nice balance and dusty tannins. Just a splendid bootle. — 10 years ago
Brilliant example of Pinot. Precise, lithe and compact. Deftly balanced on the palette. Tannins are polished, sweet and integrated. Nice interplay of redcurrants , sandalwood and hints of truffle. Love this stuff. — 11 years ago

Lots of fun bottles were popped at Al’s hosting this past weekend for his birthday celebration. All were served blind. 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 6 reds and 1 dessert wine.
En mag. Probably the most difficult wine of the night to identify. Hardly anyone even got close to calling this cab. I was leaning Grenache or ripe vintage burgundy as I thought I was detecting a bit of whole cluster usage due to the lifted profile and stemmy/spice red fruit notes. Yet by the end of the night, the structure beefed up and the spice turned more sweet. Lovely cherry liqueur, sandalwood, baking spices and baked red fruited pie notes. — 7 years ago
