Wow! Love this one. I was waiting for a special occasion to open this one! — 5 years ago
That’s some nice drinkin’ stuff (circa 2017). Thanks to the local somm, Steve, at our Whole Foods for the recom... it was their last bottle and he sacrificed. — 6 years ago
Smooth as silk, with a hint of vanilla under its lush red fruit surface. At four years, it’s drinking fabulously, hard to see how it could improve and life is too short after all. Sourced in Halifax for about $60, sadly I think they are sold out. — 7 years ago
Outstanding quality with deep four dimensional complexity reaching a defined stone crushed minerality and the lovely sous bois earthyness. Ripe yet very well structured on the palate, balanced throughout and a high class long lasting finish. Drinks superbly well but with structure to age and develop further for may years to come. — 7 years ago
Absolutely amazing! Rich green apple & green olive scent and a peachy green taste that finishes all too smooth.
Great go to! — 8 years ago
Part of a double-blind, side-by-side between the 2017 Sandlands Mataro, which also happens to be from Contra Costa County. Opened and allowed both bottles to slow-ox about three hours prior to our guests arriving. Slightly deeper in color. The nose was lingonberries and dusty earth. On the palate, there were plums and spices. This comes across more round than the Sandlands and has the silkiest of deliveries. Medium tannins but they seemed to grow as time went on.
Given the structure, I expect these to continue aging very well. At this stage, this comes across as a very elegant wine. The Oakley Road Vineyard is own-rooted and dry-farmed; planted 117 years ago. 352 cases. — 5 years ago
I remember having this at the winery 4 years ago and thinking at the time it was one of the best sav blancs id ever tasted, which is easy to say in that setting. Revisiting and it’s still excellent, but I’m drinking it in my kitchen. More soft peach than typical passion fruit. Wonderfully balanced and unique. Another great last minute gathering at the storage facility!
Dan is the king of busting out these old Marcassins, and every single one has been a revelation...until this one 😕. Don’t get me wrong, this was nowhere close to terrible, but it smelled and tasted of bubblegum. Very faint nuttiness notes to it. — 8 years ago
Gritty black fruit. Thin on opening. Fleshes out and blooms with air and protein. A cool weather Cab Franc to be sure. Patience in the glass brings rewards. — 5 years ago
Very smooth and silky Merlot, drinks more like a lighter cab. Excellent compliment to the BBQ pork chops — 5 years ago
Deep Ruby with aromas of dark berry fruits, sweet spice and cedar. Flavors of blackberry and cherry, some herb with vanilla, oak and cacao notes, well balanced. Fine tannins, good mouthfeel on long finish ending with mocha and espresso tones. Has room to age. Tasting Sample. Nice but a bit pricey! — 5 years ago
Classic RRV Chard served for Thanksgiving 2019. Nose of herbs and butter. Entry of honeysuckle, mango, wildflowers. Middle gains a limestone grit. Finishes with brighter acidity than I would have expected given that the entry of this wine is quite a bit more rounded than I expected it to be. Hint of walnut. Very balanced. These wines are built for an extremely long haul, 1 to 2 decades. Drink or hold. — 6 years ago
An Xmas gift from a close friend @Bill Bender - thank you so much, Bill.
The nose is bright and boisterous, which oozes red currants and cinnamon. On the palate, this presents just like a contemporary burg. Light on its feet. Soft, round tannins with a lovely interplay of relaxed acid. Finishes with delicacy and elegance.
We are really looking forward to securing a 2019 allocation from the winery. — 7 years ago
These Villa Creek wines have continued to grow on me over the years. This was no exception. Lots of lip smacking fruit but executed in a style that sits very nicely with my palate. — 8 years ago
