Last night we opend the 2012 Mullan Road Cellars Red Wine Blend. Columbia Valley Walla Walla Washington. This was the 1st release from vintner Dennis Cakebread and winemaker Aryn Morell, 81 barrels made. A blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 12% Cabernet Franc.

On the nose is black cherry, blackberry, black plum, green bell pepper, herbaceous, black currant, licorice, vanilla, leather and rich earth.

On the palate is black cherry, blackberry, plum, green bell pepper, black currant, herbaceous, spice, leather and earth.

This is a full bodied wine with a smooth velvety mouthfeel medium + acidity and medium + fine grippy tannins that has a long dark fruit herbaceous finish. A beautiful wine with 10 years of age and has many years of ageability left in it. If you have never had Walla Walla Washington wine Mullan Road Cellars is one to seek out. Dennis Cakebread has a wonderful winery here and their prices are very affordable. I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend? Please stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Deep Ruby red, with aromas of dark fruit and spice. On the palate, the blend of 51% Cab Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, and 12% Cab Franc, flavors of blackberry and plum with notes of cacao and gentle smoky/toasty oak. The wine spent 16 months in 40% new French and American oak. Full bodied, nice balance and well integrated soft tannins. Tasting well now and will continue to age. Very nice!

Generous fruit, oak, texture - a well-made compelling offering from Dennis Cakebread. About 50-50 Merlot and Cabernet well-balanced and very accessible drink now till 2020

What. Fantastic wine and a prime example as to why WA state is surging with new recognition as the next great thing after OR foursome CA. Integrated with balance and complexity with a great nose and mouthfeel reminiscent of much older wines. I'm a buyer.

Blackberry and black cherry. Spice, cedar and mint. Nicely balanced with silky tannin. Soft, round, and elegant.

Cakebread invades Washington.... This Red blend is cab, merlot and can franc. Nice oak finish after an initial burst of raspberry and dark fruit. I'll be running out to buy a few more bottle of this... Exited to see it improve with age.

Had this a few years ago, disappointed that I opened this wine early so I opened one now. Deep Ruby red, with aromas of dark fruit and spice. On the palate, the blend of 51% Cab Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, and 12% Cab Franc, had blackberry and plums with notes of cacao and gentle smoky/toasty oak. The wine spent 16 months in 40% new French and American oak. Full bodied, nice balance and well integrated soft tannins. Time will continue to enhance this wine. Very nice!
