Laphroaig Cairdeas NAS 2015 200 Anniversary. Light on the peat with a bit of sweetness on the nose. Carries into the palate and finish. Peat and sweetness with maybe some butterscotch. People said this was powerful. The finish lasts a long time but I found it light in its feet. Starting to enjoy these mild peat versions. Category

Campbeltown Loch NAS (no age statement) light on the nose, no peat. Has a really nice finish that lasts. Strong on the tip of the tongue but full mouth filling. Rich in flavor and not shy. — 13 days ago
Very similar notes to @Aaron Tan’s from the vintage prior. It’s good but I think I prefer the whites. — 21 days ago
Cutty Sark 25yr Tam O’Shanter Blend 46.5% - was expecting a bit more given the dark color and age. It’s mild, ok on the finish. Maybe wanted more oomph. — 5 days ago
This is a Scotch Malt Whiskey bottle. I think it hides the 51.5% well but make no mistake the finish is strong and long. All down the middle for me and none in the cheeks. Flavor is sweet, light smoke and hidden a bit by the alcohol. I don’t really buy the title but I think this brand often does things with oysters especially at the Whiskey of the World event if I am remembering correctly. Cask No. 42.56
Sipping whisky from a shell
Highland, Island
A subtle nose of cinnamon buns, Turkish delight, muscle rub and ‘a smouldering cigar in an artist’s studio’ (tobacco leaf and linseed oil). The palate had a waxy texture and flavours of dark cherries, waxed sweets (e.g. rhubarb rock), walnut oil, tobacco and raisins soaked in cognac. A drop of water shifted the nose towards sharp fruits (stewed rhubarb and lemon squeezed over fish cooked on a beach barbeque). The reduced palate had rum and raisin ice cream, starfruit and balsamic glaze. There was only the most delicate wisp of smoke but lots of coastal suggestions – ‘like sipping whisky from an oyster shell’.

No age statement (NAS) on this one but it still has a rich and full finish. It not one that lasts super long but is complete and great. Didn’t think I was a fan of Tamdhu but this changes that.
Official commentary - The distiller does so by bottling the Cigar Malt unchillfiltered at 53.8% ABV, which the distiller’s notes show the whisky to mimic the spice, aroma, and mouthfeel of aged tobacco leaves.
Sandy McIntyre, Tamdhu’s distillery manager, explained that Cigar Malt II has a balanced, creamy nose that gives way to crystallized ginger, golden syrup, and hints of sherry oak. It tastes of winter fruits soaked in sherry with a thick mouthfeel, followed by a malt loaf and vanilla cream.
The finish is lingering and brings a hint of sherry, with honeyed apricots and toasted nuts. — 24 days ago
It’s still too young for me but I wanted to pull one. Medium nose where I get a bit of green-ness. The finish is light and there is a bit of green on the palate as well. Hoping the rest get better with age. — 10 days ago
This is one of Kilkerran’s heavily peated batches, I think they are up to batch 9. If the rest of them taste this good then one should grab whatever you can get. Interesting the nose on this one keeps changing for me and all in a good way. Despite being called heavy peat, it’s mild to me. Really delightful aroma I got oats and vanilla to start and now salted caramel seems to dominate. The flavor is great, sure there is some heat but tamed especially given the level. More salted caramel, a full, well rounded finish that goes on and on. No burn but it hits the tongue hard. Distillery - Glengyle

Dewar’s 32 yr Double Double Blend 46%. I guess I just like a bit of peat. This has none but has heavy oak. Finish is just ok. Flavor is just ok for me. Too wood heavy. Nose I think is medium-light. I’m not searching this out. — 3 days ago
