Another last of its kind wine as the San Mateo moved to Alesia label after this vintage. This young blend is really singing right now with bright red fruit and cedar spice and well balanced acidity. A candidate for short term aging, but the freshness of the fruit really shines now. — 7 years ago
Reminiscent of Rhys, fantastic wine, terrific Pinot. — 9 years ago
Lemon color. Green apple, lemon, a bit of tropical fruit and slight yeast. Mellower than the Alpine, with laser sharp acidity. Long finish. Great value from Rhys. Wish I bought more. Very nice white in the Old World style. — 10 years ago
Wow This rivals the 09' Rhys Alpine. Amazing showing of Cali Pinot. low octane #Pursuitofbalance — 11 years ago
Moderate reddish purple in the glass. Quite young and tightly knit at this point showing predominantly barrel notes with caramel and dusty cedar but with aeration also wild berries and hints of mint. The red toned fruit is prominent on the palate with surprisingly muscular tannins, balanced acidity, 14.2% alcohol, and good length. This is River-Marie’s first vintage sourced from Rhys’ estate Bearwallow vineyard in the “deep end” of Anderson Valley. The bottling shows promise but would undoubtedly benefit from time in the cellar to unwind. $68. — 8 years ago
Pop and pour. I initially opened a Rhys PN to pair with our lentil stew, but that just wasn't dense enough. This btl was fantastic. On the nose: soft mulberry, crushed sweet tomato, loads of raspberry, other soft herbal notes...nice complexity. On the palate: excellent acidity and density, but so weightless at the same time: black cherry and pomegranate, and then a nice finely grained tannic finish. Fantastic. — 5 years ago

We were so fortunate to have Jeff Brinkman, Rhys’ winemaker for the past 15 years, join our tasting of nine Rhys Syrahs from 2003 - 2013. Stew, smoke, meat, classic bret. I loved it, others not so much. — 5 years ago
