Pure Est

Pétrus

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1959

Beautiful and lush. Rounded plum with light floral notes. Cherry and dried flowers. Clearly mature but still sparkling with life. Lush, pure, intense and long. — 2 years ago

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC)

La Tâche Pinot Noir 1950

A slightly stinky front. Then real deep clarity of raspberry fruit. There’s a gentle luscious center of hauntingly pure aged fruit (dried roses, soft cherry?) leading into the end palate. Really lucid. Delicious. — 6 years ago

Supposed to be a great year for LT. Glad it was.

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé

Cuvée Vieilles Vignes Musigny Grand Cru Pinot Noir 1990

Very pure wine with a bit of stink. Pure fruit. Real length and depth. There’s a sourness and herbal prettiness to this. — 7 years ago

There were two bottles here, both in very different condition. The more advanced one was beautifully soft and developed/ the fresher bottle still needed time. A lovely wine in both cases

Good on you. I never had a bottle that was not flawed.

It has a reputation- and these were both in very different places but both very good

Domaine Prieuré Roch

Pure Bourgogne Gamay 2015

Enjoyed this more than my first bottle a few months ago. Has settled down a bit. Quaffable, bright tart red fruit. Again was better on day 2. Not "pure" bottling — 9 years ago

Significantly better than the last one I had. Still showing a decent amount of fruit and still pure harmony. In a great spot. — 9 years ago

Love it! Juicy AF. Minerally. Good with spicy shakshouka. I'd keep a bottle of this on hand all the time. — 3 years ago

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1978

Birth year vintages are a roll of the dice but luckily I landed on a pretty solid classic - 1978. So for my birthday this year, we opened an LLC and wow was this perfect. The sommelier was surgical in removing the cork which split in half but he managed to extract it. The nose on this wine was a 10 - loads of cassis, licorice, dusty library and leather. Palate was extracted cassis, leather and great acidity and liveliness, just like my 44 year old self. It’s just pure magic when bottles this old perform - happy Friday everyone. — 4 years ago

Château Montrose

Saint-Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1988

A bit out of my league, but incredible. Funk, ash, herbs de Provence, licorice. Opened slowly, as expected. Pure velvet after an hour. Probably the only opportunity I'll have to try this. — 10 years ago

Wow!! What was the occasion/or who was opening for you? I've tasted a 1983 Pauillac and ever since wanted to taste more old Bordeaux...

@Ellen Clifford No special occasion, just enjoying with friends. My friends parents have a big stockpile in their basement of random old(er) wines. We usually just go searching and try new stuff. Pretty rad! :)

Domaine François Raveneau

Montée de Tonnerre Chablis 1er Cru Chardonnay 1996

Beautifully composed. Certainly aged with lanolin, gentle honey but still fresh, poised and beautifully balanced. Long and pure. Exceptional — 3 years ago

La Mouline Côte-Rôtie Syrah 2001

Initially tightly wound and pretty slow to get going, but it makes a big change after a sufficient decant and begins to show what La Mouline is all about. Pure class and elegance with seductive and complex aromatics of red berry fruit, bacon fat, campfire smoke and fresh violets. The palate is expansive with killer intensity, a velvety texture and a long and vibrant finish. Last sips were the best. This is still young. — 4 years ago

This was the very first LaLa I had, and it was only about a month ago. Astoundingly delicious.

Massaya

Cap Est Beqaa Valley Red Blend 2013

Interesting. Blackberries, raspberries, cherries, red and black plums, earth, black pepper, dried herbs and purple flowers. Dusty tannins. Some have complained that this wine is unbalanced. 6 years+ aging seems to have done the trick. — 7 years ago

Nikka Whisky Distilling Company

21 Years Old Pure Malt Whisky

Rich amber color. Luscious red fruits, licorice, honey, and cardamom in the nose. Deeper flavors on the palate, with very rich mouthfeel and hints of light smoke. Luxurious finish. Nice to be tasting some Japanese whisky again after a dry spell in California! — 8 years ago

Domaine Jamet

Côte-Rôtie Syrah 1988

From the wine list at EMP bought by a new friend at the table next to us to go mano a mano against the 88 La Turque I shared. Slightly darker red and more pure in color. Amazing aroma that is more linear than the animalistic La La but in the same league. Hit its stride right out of the pop and pour gate. Lovely perfume with a more briary nose but speaks Cote Rotie from the get go. Perfectly integrated fruit and structure. Best Jamet I've had. Thanks to Danny for this treat. — 9 years ago
