Had a bottle 6 mos ago. Blend of 95% Cab Sauv, 4% Merlot, rest Petit Verdot, Malbec & Cab Franc, blended then aged for 24 mos in 50% new & 50% once-used American oak. Deep Ruby, youthful aromas of black fruit, sweet cacao & complex spice. Palate shows flavors of rich ripe juicy berries & cherries, core of sweet fruit with oak & vanilla notes. Nicely integrated firm, graceful tannins, long finish, displays primary fruits on ending, just beginning to develop some secondary aging, approachable now. Excellent. — 5 years ago
Dark tawny. Almost opaque. Tart fruit nose. Notes of tart cherries, tart rhubarb, tart oak bark, tart spice and a little tart mocha and tart menthol. Rich fruit in the mouth. A bit hot. Still primary. Needs more time in the bottle, or lots of time in the decanter to open up. — 6 years ago
Looking lovey with a breadth of character with still some primary fruit, but evidenced of secondary and tertiary at play. Still some florals and lush dark fruit, but that gravel and earthy vibe in tow with some touches of warm cedar oak. — 7 years ago
Deep dark scarlet. Nice vibrant color. Very direct nose. Notes of tart cherries, pencil lead, cranberries, moist soil and some tree bark. Very rich in the mouth. Nice acidity, tannins soft and integrated. Still young and primary. Needs more age and development. — 7 years ago
Just a fantastic wine. Deep fruit with both primary and secondary characteristics. Intense nose. Long finish with just enough structure / acid to hold it together. Really singing - no need to wait longer. Can't imagine a better pairing with a mutton chop at Keens, it was perfect. — 8 years ago
2 hour decant. Medium garnet color. Pronounced developed complex nose of blackcurrant, black cherries, lavender, leather, cedar and tobacco. Dry with youthful medium+ acidity and softened but still present medium+ tannin that give the wine a beautiful backbone and structure. Medium alcohol and full body. Pronounced flavors across primary secondary and tertiary notes (mirroring the nose described but perhaps with a hint of also red berries). Long finish. Outstanding and given acidity and tannin should last for a while longer perhaps as another 10 years+. — 5 years ago
Showing very well — still showing very primary — 6 years ago
This note is really about potential more than anything else. I found this bottle to be waaaaay to young. It’s got the fruit and the structure to be outstanding but it’s just too primary; all knees and elbows. I would hold these for another few years before checking back in. — 6 years ago
2002 - at 16yr old this is still very much a baby. Still primary but with incredible balance on a finish that just doesn’t quit. You can see the potential here as there are easily 20-30 years of further development. I hope I can keep my hands off the rest of the bottles to one day see it at it’s peek - it’s easy to see why these go for the prices they do. World class! — 8 years ago
2020 spring / summer. This bottle was more primary than the other recent 2016 but as enjoyable as ever. — 5 years ago
An extraordinary bottle that is a near-perfect blanc de blancs. Medium gold in color, the wine has a beautiful mousse even at 25 years of age, with fine bubbles and a tantalizing aroma conveying powerful primary, secondary and tertiary notes. The nose shows fresh and preserved lemon, green and golden apple, acacia, hawthorn, hazelnut, wet stone and flint. On the palate, the wine is dry but has a wonderful medium-bodied richness. There is vibrant, high acidity that gives the wine great energy. Flavors include smoke, flint, wet stone, preserved lemon, green apple, golden apple, dried acacia, hazelnut, and a hint of roasted coffee along with a pleasant saline quality. The wine has a very long finish and is compelling to drink now though it can certainly age for another decade or more. Outstanding. — 6 years ago
Primary but delicious. Hard to hold but need to see what this is like in 5yrs — 7 years ago
An evening of Lynch-Bages with Stephen Bolger. Included 04 Dom Rose and a 95 Heidsieck Millenaires, ‘16 LB Blanc and the. A beautiful cascade of wines including 1961, 1970, 1975, 1986, 1989, 1996, 2000 and 2005. I would say the 1989 was surprisingly closed and primary and everything after, while still having a beautiful perfume, needed much time. Everything showed beautifully and my personal favorite was actually the 1975 because it was such a tough-as-nails vintage and yet showed a beautiful delicacy. Splitting hairs to pick a favorite. One of my favorite estates just jumped even higher in my estimation! — 8 years ago

Beautifully concentrated dark blue fruit. Lovely salinity and a blueberry intensity. Gorgeously savory palate. Primary, young and brooding. Excellent — 8 years ago

2008 vintage in January 2021. Double-decanted 2 hours before serving. That was helpful as it opened into a big wine that is still fairly primary with big fruits and some graphite. Plenty of backbone and will last another 7-10 years easily but want to try this again in 1-2. — 5 years ago
