Took a while to open up, but when it did, this light wine has teeth-staining tannins, pretty lavender accents and a bitter cherry finish that carries on forever. Definitely drinkable now but this wine is so young, could age for a decade before truly balancing out. — 6 years ago
Perfectly poised and saline. Great concentration but light as hell. A focused oyster shell thing then gorgeous bright fruit. Contained still. Very elegant with huge power. Probably way too young but sheer class with great length. — 8 years ago
This is drinking really well. A lovely nose with kirsch, a herby sage thing and meaty, lively red fruit. On the palate young and vital. Lovely bright definition- vivid and powerful. Heat in check. It's young but much better balanced than a lot of 07's with great Pegau funk. Excellent and a good way ahead — 8 years ago
Banger. Drained the bottle pretty quickly. — 5 years ago
Man I love this wine. Duchovney said “god hates us all”. Which may be true. But some days he loves volnay drinkers. And on this day he loves me. At least over dinner of medium rare magret with shallot truffle red wine sauce (yes I used a quarter glass of this in the sauce because I’m a baller).
In any case boo yah. This needs an hour to settle down so dont pop and pour this at this point. The first thing I want to talk about is the texture. It passes by the palate with a clear but not thick alert to its presence. Just palate coating like a spray gun. Just soaks the palate an inch deep. Perfectly pure cherry fruit at the tipping point between fresh / young and deep/ dense. Some spice. It has that palate vibrancy thing going on. Really sticks on the finish. Long. Hits the top of the mouth between gum and tooth.
MOs def a hand over land wine as this is definitely 1er cru quality. Outrageous for village volnay. Me love-ee this producer. — 6 years ago
2009 . Still very primary enjoyable but opened too young. Pretty deep and intense — 7 years ago
From Magnum. A young vintage for sure but a great example of excellent winemaking. Decant for 3+ hours and showed very pretty but still will benefit from 10 more years. Good showing for the vintage. — 8 years ago
Awww shit, my first Rougeard! So stoked on this. As a Loire Cab Franc nut, getting to taste this is amazing and it definitely lives up to expectations. Hope I can get my hands on a bottle of Les Bourg or Les Poyeux sometime, because even this appellation-level bottle is insane. This pours a ruby-garnet hue of medium (-) to medium concentration, fading to a burnished pink rim that is just starting to show signs of age. Moderately concentrated, elegant, ethereal nose of perfectly-ripe wild raspberry and blackberry, crushed rose petals, graphite and pencil shavings, lightly grilled green bell pepper, and a smidge of already really well integrated new oak that comes across in this particular wine as a subtle espresso undertone. On the palate, the fruit character is ever-so-slightly underripe (in a positive, refreshing manner) and there's an extra shot of cool graphite mineral intensity but otherwise is pretty congruent with the nose. Perfect amount of pyrazine character; enough to add complexity and freshness yet doesn't dominate at all. Medium (-) to medium body, medium (+) acid, and medium to medium (+) intensity of incredibly fine grained, supple tannins. Insane complexity and length. Honestly between the oak and incredibly skillful phenolic extraction, the texture is the most intriguing thing about this wine. Definitely worth the hype. I somehow managed to snag his for under $100 too so I'm pretty stoked on that too, haha. Definitely could keep going in the cellar for a while but honestly still delicious now especially if you give it some air. Some pretty incredible stuff. Also, RIP Charly Foucault. — 8 years ago
Aromatic, bright, and firm. Probably too young, but it was a pretty show. First time around with this producer. — 9 years ago

Insignia. WNH virtual tasting . The tasting included 95,96,00,01,02,09,13,14. Last 95 I enjoyed was in May of 2019 along side the 1982. Both I vividly remember fondly.
90% CB 7% Merlot 3% PV.
One thing all the wines had in common. The color was deep garnet - purple . 95’ showed Bit of sediment. NO signs of bricking, absolutely incredible. There was no way you could tell this wine was 25 years young.
The nose comes off as left bank/Barolo. (earthy, violets)
Palate- Light signs of red currant, red & black plums, orange rind, black olives, floral notes, good acidity, grainy tannins. Long & lingering finish.
Opened it 45 minutes prior to tasting. Enjoyed it over the next 2 1/2 hours. Must say the last glass was better than the first...wife & I split the bottle and agreed. — 5 years ago
