Drinkward Peschon

"Entre Deux Mères" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Most vintages of this wine are great pop and pour candidates but this one really benefitted from some time in the decanter. Both the tannins and the acid are strong. Nice flavors of raspberry, cola, baking spices and vanilla with mineral notes on the finish. — 8 years ago

Shafer Vineyards

Hillside Select Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Shafer' Hillside select is always a great pour regardless of vintage. I found the 2009 lacking some of the complexity in comparison to better vintages BUT it was still incredible nonetheless. I preferred the Katrina to the shafer on this occasion. — 9 years ago

Venge Vineyards

Silencieux Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

I found this to be a very enjoyable wine. I was hoping for a little bit more Oak. I'm not quite sure how it would evolve over time. I always find these to be a great pop and pour wine. I never hang on to them too long in my cellar.
I would love feedback from anyone that has aged some of these to see how they evolve.

Domaine du Pegau

Cuvée Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend 2004

2004 Pegau. Always great. My favorite wine. Give me a vertical of Pegau on a desert island and I am happy. The family preferred the Cab so I enjoyed almost all of this delicious 04. Fighting with my waiter for the last pour in the bottle. Not the greatest vintage but so well balanced and intergrated flavors tonight. The seaweed/barnyard nose was just perfect with my steak at 910. — 11 years ago

Chappellet

Signature Donn Chappellet Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

From a magnum. Have had this wine on multiple occasions and it delivers. Pop and pour, dark fruits, grippy tannin, big but tight fruit little less open than the Myriad 3 twins, maybe should have decanted. — 8 years ago

Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (DRC)

Richebourg Pinot Noir 1978

From an auction bottle that had a low fill and might have had some seepage in its past. Light amber color. Thin and translucent in the glass. At the start there is a huge sweetness from the nose of the bottle to the first pour in the glass. An exotic bouquet developed over the afternoon and evening as this gained weight from the air it took on. At the 5 hour mark it was rich in the mouth to go with the amazing complex bouquet it was giving off. Notes of sweet cherries, Asian spice, dry dirt and a little molasses. Was still riding high late into the evening, and everyone's views of the wine kept improving until the last pour. The next day the empty bottle still has the sweet complexity it had when opened. — 8 years ago

Nothing like a good bottle of claret after a long hike w/friend. Dont seem to think was a good vintage but w/a good maker—-drinking nicely now. Black currants, cassis, gritty tannins, acidic lift but all integrated. Decant/ pour carefully — 8 years ago

Reva Alban Estate Vineyard Syrah 2008

Ya know those times when you find something in your wine collection you forgot you had? On the allotment list now, but not back for this 2008 (@Roman Sukley did I buy this from you or The Judge?). Strawberry, deep dried cherry, wood, tobacco. Smooth as silk at 15.1, and popped 2 hrs ahead of drinking. My sweetie usually just takes a sip of what I am drinking - last night she asked me to get her a glass, and kept asking me to pour her a little more. Yes. — 9 years ago

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1962

I suspect this didn't get quite enough air. Not quite pop and pour but it was only open for 45 mins before we drank it (we were perhaps over-concerned about the mid shoulder level). Lovely (and lively) russet core with long legs as a ruby rim; nose of pencil shavings, cigar tubes (hint of metal with lots of tobacco), blackberry stalks, and lingering aromas of compté cheese rind and venerable (on-the-edge) rose petals; long and satisfying - persistent tannins and well integrated but still present acidity. From half bottle - need to give the next one more time!!! — 10 years ago
