Philip Lardot

Philip Shaw

No. 19 Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Does no betray that it is a SB at first blush. The grass is more a tertiary aroma beneath maybe a green apple nose.
On the palate the acid predominates but is not obtrusive. The wine is probably more of a Loire valley signature.
Rosslyn and Alix did not appreciate this wine at all. In fact they disliked it so much they did not drink it.

Incredible concentration and power (esp for the $$) Quite raw. Needs 5+ years for tannin, acid and alc to settle down a bit. — 6 years ago

Stunning Friday night steak wine - 2008 drinking really well with good balance of fruit from Merlot and the tannin and earthiness from the Franc — 7 years ago

Jaffurs Wine Cellars

Verna's Vineyard Syrah 2008

Money. Killer. Rad. Channeling my inner @Philip Carpenter who also totally loves these wines. Jaffurs is the poster child of consistency in winemaking, and Verna's is always a powerful tapestry. Super opaque, almost black purple, very ripe/rich black &blue fruits, some lavender, and roasted meats. Pedal to the metal, jump on board and enjoy the ride (now channeling my inner @Bill Bender!). — 7 years ago

HA!! I do love the blue foils. 08 is a killer vintage, too. Got a Bien Nacido staring at me right now. Wish I was there to share with you.

Thompson Vineyard Syrah 2008

Nice pair with steaks on a Tuesday night while @Philip Carpenter was waxing poetic on the virtues or Santa Barbara County during a Twitter wine chat. Join in to #WineStudio next Tuesday at 6pm PST to connect with Dan Kessler of Kessler-Haak and with Mr Tercero himself, Larry Schaffer, at the same time on Feb 23rd. — 8 years ago

der hirt trocken Riesling 2017

Very juicy. Full bodied. Ripe ripe orange and lime citrus flavors. Some green mango and jackfruit spice with warmth. Some lingering acid and minerals. Some of that buttercream and sugar on the nose. The better of the cuvees I’ve had from Lardot. Be back w more. — 4 years ago

Philip Murphy Estate

Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir 2010

Pale Ruby. Amazing intensity on nose and palate for such a pale coloured wine. Sweet AND Savoury with mushroom and Beetroot notes. Loved this wine - delicious and different with a nod to Burgundy. Philip Murphy is the son of Dan Murphy whose name is famous for being the largest wine retailer in Australia. The liquor chain is owned by Woolworths, Dan died in 2001 and Philip went off with his inheritance after many court battles never having cordial relationships with Dan who was 83 when he died. — 8 years ago

Calendal (Philippe Cambie et Gilles Ferran)

Plan de Dieu par Côtes du Rhône Villages Red Rhône Blend 2012

One of my favorite dinners was on the menu here at Chez Skip - cassoulet! And my knowledge of wine pairing is as sophisticated as a toddler eating spaghetti, I said to myself - hey I am eating French food and I like this French wine, so hey why not? And that was that. But as wine can be, it evoked its memory of when I had it first. I remember sitting out in the patio and being impressed with it. I thought to myself I could really enjoy French wines, but as history has shown, that was clearly a short lived notion.

Knowing it had been some time, I had an odd feeling, so I checked my Delectable history. Indeed, this was the very first wine I had rated!

So, to my friends, do you remember your first wine on here? Was it anything memorable?
