A blend of 90% Sauv Blanc and 10% Semillon. Pale yellow color with aromas of citrus, floral, wet stone and tropical fruit. On the palate rich fruits of mango and peach flavors with citrus zest and earthy mineral notes on a balanced structure with lively fresh acidity. 1996 vintage. Last tasted 5.8.25 (9.5), 9.29.24 (9.5) and 8.2.24 (9.6). Decanted with some sed and tasted after an hour. Solid cork and fill. This was the worst showing of the last visits with less tannic structure and slightly more richness. Tasted a bit more like their "Au Paradis" offering. Not totally dissuaded from picking up another few bottles for enjoyment in the few 5 years or so tho. Perhaps something is off with my palate today, but tasting one of the world‘s great rieslings was a massive disappointment. Can’t get past the extraction and the insanely high alcohol that dwarfs the moderate acidity and faint minerality. Highly extracted phenolics. 25 year anniversary of this wine. I have been a Peter Franus fan for a long time. This zin is medium ruby, black and white pepper, clove, cedar, red cherry, vanilla on the nose--the wood is definitely pushing through, but not overpowering. On the palate, more blue/black fruit emerges, blackberry mainly. Tannins still pretty dry, alcohol high. I think this can rest even longer but it's great now too. Awesome!!!
