Consistent notes from my last experience, exactly 365 days ago...Such unplanned timing!
Nose has fresh papaya, freshly washed lemon, under-ripe white peach and cold butter or candle wax.
Palate has waxy yellow apple, coconut, white mushroom, fresh sage and light green herbal notes, faint peppery finish.
I wish I had more patience, or looked at my notes before opening another bottle, oh well. This wine would appreciate another 5 years, drink future bottles at around 2023+. — 6 years ago
Sourced from the esteemed Seven Hills Vineyard in the Walla Walla Valley, this Viognier opens with a ripe bouquet of white peach, vanilla cream and suggestions of honey and apricot. The palate shows notable viscosity and tension, with nectarine, Pink Lady apple, green papaya and honeydew melon flavors all buiding up to the finish. Drink 2019-2025- 92 — 7 years ago
I generally try to keep politics or sorrow events off this platform. However, this morning we watched the McCain funeral and were genuinely moved. We should all hope for such a beautiful funeral.
Today, John McCain brought the world one final parting gift. A message of; peace, unity, love, respect and hope for our country. Let’s hope people listen and try to live their lives with a little more of each.
Today, a country grieves the loss of a great American and celebrates the life of a true American hero. We will miss you and your voice in our country’s discourse. Cheers & R.I.P John. You have certainly earned it.
I can’t think of many better bottles than to celebrate his life and his service commit to our country!

Micro oxygenation, blood orange, tangerine, white citrus, orange peel, dry apricot, yellow peach, Mexican papaya, baguette crust, spice with palate heat, sea spray, sea shells, gritty gray volcanic minerals with citrus blossoms and spring flowers with orange gerber Gaisies. The acidity is perfect. The finish is beautifully long, rich, lush, elegant and goes on and on.

My contribution for a wine theme of “rosé and non-Chardonnay whites.” I initially thought this would be one of the bigger wines on the table (expecting a bunch of SauvBlancs and light bodied rosés, only for a 2008 SQN The Pontiff to claim that title), and while it eventually fleshed out, it took a while.
This negociant bottling of Chave's Hermitage blanc is made from 100% Marsanne from vine age between 50-60 years. This wine comes mainly from the lieu-dit called Maison Blanche which sits atop the hill of Hermitage.
I decanted this about 2hrs, then put it back in bottle to follow over the next 2-3hrs and it really hit stride towards the end. It poured a deep golden color, as expected. Roasted macadamia nuts and herb crusted yellow fruits on the nose. At first, it was like fine grained bitter honey, banana peel, and melon on the palate and a bit lighter than expected. It gained the traditional waxy component the longer it was open, as well as gained viscosity. The finish rounded out to show a mix of herbs, mineral, along some guava and papaya, and a dose of ginger. I think this is still young, and will be fun to follow over the next few years. — 5 years ago
Gooseberry, grass, lime, butter, hay, papaya, ginger. Malolactic fermentation. Also it is obvious that this wine had spend some time in oak barrels. Well balanced and quite creamy/buttery wine.

Лист чорної смородини, кропива, агрусове варення. Цікавим є те, що цей Совіньйон пройшов малолактику і витримувався в дубі. Більш округла і кремова структура. Абсолютно не різке і збалансоване вино. — 6 years ago
Dinner with friends tonight, light notes if any.
This bottle is so over the top, and we love it, not even a 1er Cru! Prior notes apply:
Nose is the epitome of pineapple core with buttered popcorn and white flowers sneaking around.
Palate exudes tropical fruits, pineapple, papaya, lychee, light mango...All with low acidity making this so ridiculously enjoyable. — 6 years ago
Nose of under-ripe peach, mango, green melon and recently cut hay.
Palate is just elegant, great balanced acid, light citrus, peach/mango/papaya purée, watermelon rind and light minerality.
For only $19, I'm still not sure why we only bought four bottles, this should have been case quantities as a minimum. — 7 years ago
Beautiful orange in color. Great balance between acid and tannin. Very dry. Funk like hard farmhouses cider or kambucha. Muted tropical fruit fruit (Guava? Papaya?). Delicious and interesting. — 7 years ago
Fresh, aromatic nose of starfruit, papaya, gala apple, lime, touch of banana, and hint of freshly cut grass. Very plush palate but not without tension. Chard-like lightly salted mineral finish.
14% Sémillon, the 15’ has more tropical fruit profile than the 14’ that I can remember. Great stuff. — 5 years ago
Vintage 2015 | Chenin Blanc that is very useful to combine with food. I drank this with 1) rillettes, 2) prunes with bacon from grill, 3) charcuterie. With the prunes it was perfection. Smell with flint, peaches and a hint of papaya, great acidity, but off dry why it combines so good with different foods. Nice to drink a wine from this small appellation with so much potential. — 5 years ago
Guava, pear, grapefruit on the nose. Bright, crisp mouthfeel. Zingy on the gums, and hints of papaya and honeysuckle in the finish. — 5 years ago
Smells like rotting papaya. Tastes like ... Black fruit and herbs? — 6 years ago
Not usually a Riesling drinker, but since it was on the dry side, we gave it a try. The nose was unlike anything I’ve ever smelled. Unripe papaya, lemon pith and citrus. Almond, honey and gravel. Crisp finish. Not as light as a sauv blanc and held it’s own with middle eastern food — 6 years ago
Melon. Papaya. Fruity. Malolactic. Nice — 7 years ago
On the Lawn at Tanglewood this evening with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our full cast of conductors include Andris Nelsons, Christoph Eschenbach, Keith Lockhart, Michael Tilson Thomas and John Williams. The beautiful and vocally talented Audra McDonald is our host for the evening along with Midori on violin and Yo-Yo Ma on cello.
This will likely be an evening to remember for some time. Program notes from the BSO "Reflecting the season-long theme, The Bernstein Centennial Celebration at Tanglewood will spotlight Bernstein's wide-ranging talents as a composer, his many gifts as a great interpreter and champion of other composers, and his role as an inspirer of a new generation of musicians and music lovers across the country and around the globe. The gala concert will feature a kaleidoscopic array of artists and ensembles from the worlds of classical music, film, and Broadway. The entire first half of the program is dedicated to selections from such brilliant Bernstein works as Candide, West Side Story, Mass, and Serenade. Music from the classical canon very dear to Bernstein's heart-selections from Mahler's Des Knaben Wunderhorn and music by Copland-plus a new work by John Williams, makes up a good portion of the program's second half; the finale of Mahler's Resurrection Symphony brings the program to a dramatic close."
We're revisiting some producer bottles from our late Spring France vacation earlier this year.
Nose of under-ripe tropical fruits, banana skin, light oak touch. Palate has yummy papaya, under-ripe peach, tangerine and sweet oak.
Photos of the Jadot (Update, Bouchard!) Chateau with its beautiful colored slate roof (to the left of the chateau its the conservatory where we had an epic lunch during our visit and they used to overwinter their citrus trees in here many, many years ago), pictures of the first room of the most amazing library cellar in all of Burgundy (the subsequent rooms are even more amazing) and our bottle of the evening.
24hr Update, sweet oak and fermented tropical fruits just stunning today, last bottle. ☹️
OMG Update: somehow I grabbed pics from our Bouchard visit, argh! The only Jadot thing in the collage is the bottle, so sorry! — 7 years ago

A 2021 check-in on this bottle today, still holding well to prior notes:
Nose has lightly oxidized yellow apple, under-ripe papaya, pineapple core, cold butter and dry sandstone.
Palate has ripe pineapple core, lemon zest, (light) vanilla creme, pear puff pastry, yellow apple peel with slightly sweet notes to the medium finish.
