Dark garnet color, full body. Nose has spice, mineral, pipe tobacco, soft vanilla with some black fruit to round it out. High acid and grippy tannins with primary flavors of unripe black fruit, green peppers and some minerality. Awesome. — 10 years ago

Enjoyable tasting event with Far Niente wines tonight. I've had a few Nickel & Nickel, but never any of Far Niente's own wines.
Too young! But what a treat. I can see this going up a few points once its had time to develop. Aromatic in a big way...blackberries, blueberries and spice on the nose. Cedar, smoked meat, toasted oak, blueberries on the palate and a nice lingering finish. — 9 years ago

Nice Rutherford Cab from the people of Far Niente and Nickel & Nickel. Rich dark fruit and lingering silky tannins. — 11 years ago

Very strong dark fruits hit very fast and drop quickly. Low tannin. Mild finish. Very drinkable. — 7 years ago
One of CA's oldest wineries, Far Niente, founded in 1885 by world traveler John Benson. The winery flourished until Prohibition, at which time it was abandoned and fell into complete disrepair. The stately stone shell of a winery was purchased in 1979 by Gil Nickel. Tropical and stone fruit aromas with complex spice and oak notes. On the palate apple, melon and citrus flavors, creamy, with toasty oak, fig and honey tones. Lingering finish ending with vibrant acidity & mineral character. Consistent. Nice! — 8 years ago
Love Russian River 🍇! Mineral & Golden Apple. Hint of lemon zest.
Vanilla on the nose. — 9 years ago
On the nose, dark minerals, muted dark currants, fresh & dry dark florals, violets, dark cherries, strawberries and red licorice. On the palate; ripe bright fruits on first entry, lean & soft tannin structure, dry crushed rock powder, volcanic minerals, notes of a woody quality, leather & underbrush. Lean & ripe; dark cherries, cherries, blackberries, black raspberries, raspberries, touch of graphite, nice acidity, good structure with a beautiful, long finish. Barrel tasted the 2016 vintage at the Nickel & Nickel Entrecôte. Photos of look as you walk up out of their cellar and the old Nickel & Nickel truck. I'm not a vintage car expert but it looks like it comes from the later 1920's — 9 years ago
Chalky, tannic cab. Oak is nicely integrated, body med plus. — 11 years ago
Unfined, unfiltered 2014 vintage.
Chamaleontic, funky drop.
Nose dominated by black olives in brine, preserved plum, soy sauce, balsamic, black forest fruits, cinnamon, clove, bay leaf.
Elegant palate, tannin in place and refreshing acidity with a good length.
Barossa meets the Rhone.
Amusing, intriguing and delicious.
