Bella Vineyards

Maple Vineyards Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel 2013

Surprisingly complex and nuanced. There is an undeniable floral component to this wine that is quite atypical for Zinfandel. Mineral-laced, spicy, elegant and simply delicious. Aside from a hint of blueberry jam this is in no way your typical Dry Creek Zinfandel. Weight and texture are beautiful. Loving the lavender and violets. Easily the best wine I’ve had from Maple Vineyard. This is Zin! — 7 years ago

Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga

Vin Santo Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2005

Sticky, yellow raisins, maple syrup, no bite, maple syrup and half lemon/half lime, nice phenols and butterscotch, what a nice dessert wine — 8 years ago

Rudius

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

9.3

Nose is exotic, with sweet oak and ripe cherries. Palette is textured and multidimensional. Tannins still provide a nice upright structure, but are resolved. Finishes with a panoply of rich dark fruits, tobacco, maple syrup and nutmeg. I think 08 in Cali was nothing special, but the Rudius winemaker continues to pull off some splendid acrobatics.
If you have this in your cellar, don't leave it too much longer.

08 is better than it was given credit. I've had some 08's that surpass 07's.

Fully agree, David. And for the top producers like Lamborn, Rudius, Cade, etc, I don't sweat the poor vintages at all.

Founder's

Barrel Aged Series CBS Imperial Stout 2019

2019 edition. A little thin compared to prior years. Might be due to the relatively weak/disappointing 2019 KBS base. Nevertheless, the bourbon and maple syrup are both present and water nice. The alcohol is well balanced, it doesn't feel hot at all like other imperial stouts. — 6 years ago

Materium Cabernet Sauvignon 2007

Amarone on the nose. Raisins, prunes on the nose. The palate is an uncontrolled explosion of fruit. Deep, dark berries, maple syrup, spice. @Martin G Rivard — 9 years ago

Knob Creek

9 Year Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Small batch 100 proof. Saved a sip to review. Evergreen (blue spruce) dough, caramel covered almonds, nutty as hell, baklava thing going with the pistachio and honey, maple and walnut coming in a close second. Banana bread, acorn squash, cinnamon and baked sugar, vanilla icing and a return to pine, in a crystalline sap way. Life is a box of bourbon candies. The palate starts hot, with a wooden paddle waiting for gluttonous candy fiends. Krampus whips your tongue with cinnamon oils and a cedar rush. Vanilla-oak spikes pierce your palate from all angles. Oatmeal, maple, raw wheat, brown sugar and sparks! Hot, holy moley! This one tells you to dance, and you durn well better! #knobcreek #caskstrength #bourbon — 10 years ago

Colheita Porto Port Blend

Toffee and maple aromas stand out in this Colheita. Flavours of biscuit and toasted pecan emerge thereafter. The finish is vaguely like vanilla. — 6 years ago

Castellare di Castellina

Full-on Napa strip tease, with all the assets on show. Jam compote, coffee and maple syrup. So extravagant, it’s obscene. As @Carl Fischer described it, “an embarrassment of riches.”

Armida

Maple Vineyard Tina's Block Zinfandel 2014

91-92. A zin worth seeking out. I think this and the reserve zin (engraved 💀on the bottle) are the 2 best zins at armida, but this has the best value. — 8 years ago

Arietta

Variation One Red Blend 2009

Unusual Merlot Syrah blend. Best part in my view are the oak traits which show themselves in a long, bold finish of maple syrup and vanilla. Great way to follow up a front and mid palate of tart red fruit. Pair this with rare steak and it's a knockout. — 8 years ago

Thanks @Joe Lucca the syrup was front and center. Thinking I didn't decant long enough as the bottle killed it on night 2.
